Boxing is one of the most exciting sports to watch and nothing quite beats the atmosphere of fight night and the build-up to a major fight certainly plays its part, with the weigh-in usually followed by a nose-to-nose stand-off as the two square up for the cameras.
It’s great theatre on the eve of the big night and helps build the tension before the two get down to business inside the ring.
Boxing is a highly technical sport complicated not only by the 17 weight divisions in the professional ranks, but also by the four major bodies that have their own champions and rankings.
The WBA, WBO, WBC and IBF all recognise each other as governing bodies, although the IBO has been trying to muscle its way into the ‘big four’ since it was founded in the late 1980s.
What this means for boxing is that there can be four separate world champions in many of the divisions and only rarely are they unified in which all the belts are held simultaneously.
These organisations often order eliminators between top-ranked contenders to determine who will be accorded mandatory challenger status, so although a belt is not on the line these fights are ways of discovering new champions and potential legends like Muhammad Ali, Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao.
However, with so many sanctioning bodies floating about, it means more fights and of course Coral is there before the bell sounds with the latest boxing odds as the big night approaches.
If you’re interested in boxing betting, we’ll talk you through what Coral has to offer and explain some of the markets ahead of fight night.
There are plenty of options when it comes to betting on boxing, but perhaps the most popular is the outcome of the fight.
That brings us neatly to some of the other boxing odds we have available on the Coral site such as the method of victory.
Understanding boxing odds
There are three ways to win a fight in boxing betting, with a knockout, technical knockout (TKO) or disqualification all coming under the same banner.
The second is for a decision or a technical decision which means the fighter has won on points either unanimously or split, according to a panel of judges who may also go for the third option - a draw.
Round betting is also an interesting option in our boxing betting section. Occasionally a favourite is heavily odds-on to win a fight, but predicting which round the fight will end is a way of boosting the price. Similarly, you don’t need to name the winner in the total rounds market, simply choose when the fight comes to a conclusion.
However, you don’t necessarily need to be that specific because we also offer round group betting options. Here, you can choose whether one of the fighters will win between 1-5 or 6-10 rounds, or for bigger odds pick between groups of two. If the fight looks close you also have the option of whether the fight will end between rounds 1-5 or 6-10 without naming the winner. We also offer odds on whether the fight will go the distance or not - just pick one of the two options.
As fight night approaches, keep a look-out for our specials and price boosts, and also check our Coral’s news blog which has regular boxing tips on major match-ups.
