2:40 Newbury – Gunsight Ridge

He fell on his first start of the season at Wetherby in January which was disappointing, but he ran a really nice race when second at Sandown last time, so hopefully he can back that up now. Track and ground should be absolutely fine for him, and although he’s disappointed when we’ve tried him over this sort of trip before, we’ve always felt he’d appreciate two and a half miles.

I think he’ll probably step forward again for that last run, and he is off the same mark, so although plenty of them arrive here in good form, I’d be hopeful that he goes there with a decent chance.

3:15 Newbury – Dontyawantme

I ride a mare called Dontyawantme for Craig Lidster in the fourth race, and although I don’t know much about her having never ridden her, she did battle well to win a novice hurdle at Carlisle two starts ago.

She did struggle last time though in a Listed race at Doncaster, and this does look an extremely competitive handicap, so you’d suspect she’s going to have to take a huge step forward to win this.

3:50 Newbury – Lawsky

Lawsky makes his racecourse debut for Paul Webber in the bumper, but it is a big field, and there’s plenty of prize money on offer. I’ve not sat on him before, so I’m not sure what to expect, but he’s out of Sea The Moon who has sired a few nice national hunt horses such as Allmankind and Tritonic, so hopefully he can make a nice start in what will probably turn out to be a very good bumper.

5:00 Newbury – Franky Du Berlais

I’m looking forward to riding Franky Du Berlais in the veterans’ race for Dad, and he’s been running well in open company, so he’d definitely have a chance in a veterans’ handicap like this. He’s ran a few good races this season off similar marks to this, and that form usually translates well when you come into these types of races. The ground should be very much in his favour too, so there doesn’t look to be any excuses for him.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s a very competitive race, but he seems in decent form at home, and I think he goes there with a chance.
