Our five best on cup final day
The FA Cup final tops Saturday’s schedule, but football fans have a worthwhile support act a couple of hours earlier at Hampden where Celtic aim to beat Aberdeen and add the Scottish Cup to the two honours already won this term.
It’s the dying embers of the seasons across Europe, but there’s just enough matches to put together a decent accumulator. Chelsea beat Arsenal
We have taken a closer look at this year’s FA Cup final on the football section of our site, but the general idea is that Chelsea will complete the double and Arsene Wenger will be off out the door on the back of a miserable season. The stats suggest Antonio Conte’s side have every chance of winning to nil too.
Confidence is sky-high in the Chelsea ranks, and in N’Golo Kante they have a player capable of taking this big occasion by the scruff of the neck and winning it for his team. Ex-Gunner Cesc Fabregas is another who, if given a chance, will make things happen in the middle of the park, it’s then up to Diego Costa to go out with a bang. Chelsea have won three of their last four meetings with Arsenal, and that form must be respected. 3/4 looks the perfect way to get the ball rolling.
Celtic beat Aberdeen
Brendan Rodgers looks to cap his first season in charge of Celtic with a stunning treble. The Premiership gong and League Cup are already stored away in the Parkhead cabinet, the latter won at Hampden courtesy of a 3-0 over Aberdeen late last year. Celtic went through the domestic season unbeaten, and won’t be in any mood to let that slip at the final hurdle. You’d be hard pressed to find many better Hoops’ sides in living memory.
Aberdeen haven’t been too bad, by their own standards, and held their ground from last season, finishing second to see off Rangers, who were expected to slip back into the groove as the nation’s second team. The Dons were having none of it and, in the end, had little trouble seeing off the Glaswegians. Their efforts certainly deserve a winners medal, but Celtic look too good, and we’re putting a line through the upset. Jump on the treble at a handy 4/9.
Juventus beat Bologna
Juventus battered Crotone at home recently to tighten their stranglehold over the Serie A, clinching a sixth league title on the bounce. They have been phenomenal again this term, and will now set their sights on beating Real Madrid in the final of the Champions League. Therefore, they don’t have to win this one, and with that final coming up, will surely rest a few of their better players. We don’t think it’ll be enough, and if The Old Lady fancy this, they’ll win at a canter. All we can do is back them to remain professional and do the business at 3/4. That price looks real value.
Racing Genk beat Truidense
Racing Genk face a win or bust tie with Truidense in the Belgian play-offs on Saturday night. Genk go into this tie with solid recent form, and we’re hoping that will translate into a win over their rivals when it matters. They won home and away against Truidense in the regular season, 1-0 and 3-0. That’s difficult to ignore in what appears to be a tight match on paper. We’re more than happy to take a chance on Genk at 1/2.
Fenerbahce beat Trabzonspor
It has been a disappointing season by Fenerbahce’s high standards, sitting third in the table, well off the pace of champions Besiktas. Opponents Trabzonspor are certainly no world beaters themselves, and prepare for this having won just one of their last six league games, and none of their last four. The Yellow Canary will do for us, and round things off at 5/6.
