FA Cup winner betting: City odds-on favourites for glory

Manchester City are the clear favourites in Coral’s FA Cup winner odds after reaching the semi-finals and avoiding Premier League opposition.

City powered into the last four of the competition for a sixth time under Pep Guardiola as they thrashed Burnley 6-0 at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.

They now face Burnley’s Championship promotion rivals Sheffield United at Wembley so will be firm favourites to reach the final at the expense of the Blades and are 8/13 to win the competition.

Paul Heckingbottom’s side are the last remaining Championship club in the draw after securing a dramatic 3-2 win over Blackburn on Sunday.

The scheduling could help United cause an upset though, with the semi-finals coming just days after what could be a titanic Champions League quarter-final tussle for City at Bayern Munich.

City have lost four of their five FA Cup semi-finals under Guardiola, who said: “The worst game we play is always the semi-final of FA Cup at Wembley. Never we were there.

“Our performances were really poor every time. Even the year we won we struggled, against Brighton, not really good.

“Hopefully one year we can play the semi-finals here in Manchester – but the last years always before or after the Champions League quarter-final we travelled.

“We were not ready, tired, and hopefully this year we can prepare a bit better. The final of FA Cup is a dream to play and this season we are going to try.”

Sheffield United are the massive outsiders in the outright FA Cup betting at 50/1, while Manchester United are 9/4 for a domestic cup double ahead of their semi-final against 11/2 shots Brighton.

The Carabao Cup winners had a scare in their FA Cup quarter-final when they trailed to Fulham but the wheels came off for the Londoners with around 20 minutes left as manager Marco Silva, Willian and Aleksandar Mitrovic were all sent off within 40 seconds of one another.

United made them pay with a 3-1 win but will need to improve against Brighton, who enjoyed a 2-1 Premier League win at Old Trafford on the opening weekend of the season.

Evan Ferguson scored a brace as Brighton ended Grimsby’s fairytale FA Cup run at the quarter-final stage with a decisive 5-0 victory over League Two’s 15th-placed side.

Deniz Undav scored inside six minutes and 18-year-old Ferguson had a standout afternoon, hitting two before Solly March nodded in the fourth and Kaoru Mitoma sealed the Mariners’ fate at the Amex Stadium.

The FA Cup semi-finals will be played at Wembley on the weekend of April 22 and 23.
