Euro 2020 top goalscorer tips: Kane still in Golden Boot contention
Published:Odds for the Golden Boot market
We’re assessing the best Euro 2020 top goalscorer tips ahead of the final between England and Italy on Sunday.
Can anyone make a late surge and catch the joint leaders at the top of the standings? Here we analyse the leading contenders:
Cristiano Ronaldo
Ronaldo will have been a popular pick in Euro 2020 top goalscorer tips heading into the tournament and his backers have faced a nervous wait to see if their bet comes in.
The Portugal forward scored five goals in Group F but was unable to prevent a 1-0 defeat against Belgium in the round of 16.
He is joint-top of the goal chart and may have done enough to share the award, which he is 6/4 to do, but there is still a chance he could be overtaken in the final.
Patrik Schick
Ronaldo was joined at the top of the Euro 2020 golden boot standings by Schick when the Czech Republic striker grabbed his fifth goal against Denmark.
Schick pulled a goal back for the Czechs when he converted a Vladimir Coufal cross early in the second half but it was not enough to prevent a 2-1 defeat in Baku.
Having scored three goals during the group stage and then adding to his tally against the Netherlands, it has been an impressive tournament for the Bayer Leverkusen forward and he is also 6/4 in the top scorer market.
Harry Kane
Three players have four goals at Euro 2020 but the elimination of France, Sweden and Belgium ended the chances of Karim Benzema, Emil Forsberg and Romelu Lukaku respectively.
The biggest threat to Ronaldo and Schick is now seen as Kane at 7/2. The England striker made a slow start to the tournament and failed to score during the group stage but kick-started his campaign with a header against Germany.
He then bagged a brace in the 4-0 victory over Ukraine and grabbed the winner in extra-time against Denmark which means Kane still has the opportunity to repeat his golden boot success at the 2018 World Cup, with two goals against Italy enough to win the award outright.
Raheem Sterling
While Kane made a slow start to the Euros, Sterling stepped up to score the goals which took England to the latter stages of the tournament.
The Manchester City winger was on target against Croatia, the Czech Republic and Germany as he became the first player since Gary Lineker to score the first three England goals at a major tournament.
He failed to add to his tally against Ukraine or Denmark, though, and has now drifted to 18/1 ahead of Sunday’s final but he is 13/8 favourite to be named player of the tournament.
Best of the rest
Ciro Immobile featured prominently in Euro 2020 top goalscorer tips after scoring in Italy’s opening two matches but he has now drifted to 80/1 after failing to add to his tally and not even managing a shot on target against Belgium before remaining stuck on two goals after the semi-final win against Spain.
Team-mate Federico Chiesa grabbed his second goal of the tournament against Spain and is 80/1 but will need an amazing performance in the final to worry Ronaldo and Schick.
