Newport v Man City Betting Tips: Can Exiles pull off a miracle?

Odds and preview for FA Cup fifth-round tie

Could we be in for one of the great cupsets this evening? Premier League champions Manchester City head to League Two side Newport County in the FA Cup.

Newport have already pulled off a couple of surprise results to make it this far. But this would be on a different level entirely.

City still have four trophies in their sights and will want to get this done without too much fuss. But anything’s possible in the cup. BT Sport 2 have all the action from 5:30pm, and you’ll find all the key odds here in the meantime…

Head-to-Head

These sides have never met before, but the Exiles have seen off Leicester City and Middlesbrough at home in the cup. And they’ve got nothing to lose here. All the pressure is on the visitors.

City arrive here back on top of the Premier League, with 11 wins in their last 12 games in all competitions. They’ve ran up 7-0, 9-0, 5-0 and 6-0 wins during that run, which could be ominous for the hosts.

Likely XIs

With no real injury concerns, Michael Flynn is likely to stick with the bulk of the side that’s done so well in the cup so far.

That means a back three of Mark O’Brien, Mickey Demetriou and Fraser Franks, with Jamille Matt and Padraig Amond ahead of a five-man midfield.

Pep Guardiola will make changes ahead of next week’s Champions League clash with Schalke, but he’ll still field a team packed with internationals.

The likes of Gabriel Jesus, Riyad Mahrez and Nicolas Otamendi are set to start. Young Phil Foden could get a chance to impress too.

Key Battles

Newport have kept clean sheets in their last four outings. But City have scored more goals than any other side in Europe this term (120). How long can hold out against the champions’ star-studded attack?

The hosts will defend deep, so City will need to move the ball quickly to break them down. But with some players short of action lately, it could take some time for them to get into their usual rhythm.

If they get the first goal early, the Manchester side will fancy their chances of racking up another big scoreline.

Match Odds

It’s no surprise that City are 1/16 favourites, with a City win to nil going for 4/6.

Newport are way back at 28/1, while our traders have 14/1 for the draw.

Fancy City to win comfortably? They’re 2/7 to be leading at half-time and full-time.

We go 23/10 for Jesus to open the scoring, with the Brazilian 4/11 to net at any time.

Mahrez hasn’t started a league match since the turn of the year. He’s 5/6 to stake his claim with a goal.

And all three of Foden’s goals this season have come in domestic cup competitions. He’s 17/10 to add to his tally in South Wales.

After netting against Leicester and Middlesbrough, Amond is 4/1 to score for the visitors.
