Aldershot’s Scott seeking FA Cup shock win over Portsmouth

Aldershot boss Andy Scott is hoping his side can cause an upset in his side’s FA Cup replay with Pompey, in what will be a heated Hampshire derby. Understandably, the non-league outfit are 15/8 outsiders with Coral for the match, though they do have home advantage.

“It’s a fantastic effort from the fans and it just shows what a club we can be,” Scott said.

“They were a massive boost to us at Fratton Park and we know it will be the same on Wednesday. Games like this are a reward for the fans. They can show everybody around the country what a good club we are and how well supported we are.

“We know it’s going to be tough but the opportunity is there for us. With the backing that we’ve got here, and the ability that we have on the pitch, we can cause them problems and hopefully go through.”

“It’s an opportunity for our players to show their quality. They need a stage to go and perform on.

“There’s a huge belief amongst the squad that we can produce the sort of performance that we did at Portsmouth every week,” continued Scott, who will be looking to the likes of Brett Williams and Dan Holman, who are 2/1 and 23/10 to strike in the anytime market, respectively.

“We’ve got a lot of confidence after the week that we’ve had. We enjoy playing at home and we’re confident in our own ability. We want to show the fans what we can do.”

Speaking about Pompey’s chances, Scott acknowledged they have individuals who can make a difference, with Craig Westcarr an 11/2 chance to score first, while Patrick Agyemang is available at 6/1.

“They’ve got individuals that can turn games and a very strong squad,” Scott added. “They’ve probably got two XIs that could cope pretty well in League Two, so we know it’s going to be tough.

“We know how they play and we know that we can cope with that. We’re the underdogs but we will play to our strengths and want to take the game to them. They’re going to be under pressure to beat us.”

Maidstone are also 3/1 to beat Stevenage in the other FA Cup replay and Frannie Collin is 6/1 to break the deadlock for the home side, while Jay May is well priced at 5/2 in the anytime market. For the visitors, former Tottenham trainee, Lee Barnard is great value at 9/2 to open the scoring.
