Redcar Preview: Anderiego can strike for in-form O’Meara

Published:

Anderiego looks capable of defying top-weight to land the feature 1m handicap on today’s seven-race card at Redcar (4.00).

Trained by the in-form David O’Meara, the gelding was rude health in 2012, winning back-to-back mile contests at York.

Although the six-year-old failed to get his head in front last year he posted some solid efforts to be placed in the first half.

They included a head second to Norse Blues in the Thirsk Hunt Cup off 90, and a cracking 1 1/2 lengths third of 15 to Navajo Chief in a class 1 listed handicap at York off 95.

Anderiego then got back to winning ways in a class 3 contest at York in July off a mark of 81, and now gets into this lower grade class 4 affair off just 4lb higher.

That makes the son of Invincible Spirit look well-treated on the pick of his form, and Anderiego comes into the contest on the back of a solid third over course and distance which showed he was still on the top of his game.

In the 6f handicap (3.30), Eland Ally can take advantage of a drop in grade to score an overdue success.

The Tom Tate gelding has just one win to his name, with that victory coming in a maiden at Doncaster back in 2011.

However, Eland Ally has run well to be placed in some decent handicaps including when a 3/4 length runner-up to Greeb in a 12-runner class 4 contest at Doncaster and a solid fourth of 15 to Arctic Feeling in the same grade at York on his penultimate start off 70.

Eland Ally now gets into the lower grade class 5 affair off 2lb lower, and that gives him a big shout from a handicapping perspective.

Madrasa has an ecellent record at the track and can further enhance it with victory in the 1m 6f handicap (5.05).

The gelding has notched all three of his career successes over course and distance, with the last of those coming in a class 5 apprentice handicap in July off a mark of 64.

The six-year-old now takes a drop into class 6 company off just 1lb higher, and with underfoot conditions to suit that gives Madrasa a major claims of getting back into the winners’ enclosure.
