Excessable arrives with confidence
An eight-race card gets started at 2.10pm on the North Yorkshire turf, where the early going has been described as good to firm. We have a small interest on Benadalid doing the business as the curtain goes up, but in terms of our bet of the day, we keep our powder dry until the 3.40pm.
A five-furlong handicap, Excessable is taken to get his head in front of an 11-runner field. Tim Easterby’s four-year-old gelding arrives at course on the back of a morale-boosting win at Thirsk earlier this month. The selection caught the eye that day, going off a joint-fav with Fruit Salad, but rating as much the better performer. Timing his attack to perfection, he hit the front going for home, and was seen pulling away from them at the conclusion, suggesting he had plenty more to give.
Capable of taking the hit
That was Excessable’s third career win, all over today’s trip, which adds confidence to supporters. He has been slapped with a 5lb rise in the weights as a consequence of that recent victory, but those who watched the race would’ve saw enough in his performance to suggest he’s capable of taking that on the chin.
He will not be without his challengers, in what looks a competitive field, but we’re hopeful of seeing him kick on from that Thirsk win, and if seeing the kind of progress expected, the pick is more than capable of getting the desired result in this company.
