The Scottish Premier League (SPL) was a top-level football league competition in Scotland. It broke away from the SFL after 14 seasons, and it exists today as an independent countrywide organization with 19 clubs that compete for 1 championship title between them all year long! Celtic & Rangers have been dominating this league since its inception 18 years ago - but now non-Old Firm teams have chance at victory too thanks to what used to be called "The Big Two" before they both merged last season under one banner: The Scottish Professional Football League.
For most of the 1990s, Celtic and Rangers were dominant forces in Scottish football. This is not normal for a league where no team outside The Old Firm has won since 1985; however, things changed with their ejection from SPL competition due to liquidation by Glasgow club Rangers last season 2010-2011 campaign left both first place finishers without one member (Celtic) or two members (Rangers). Hearts finished as runner up behind champions Celtic on all seven occasions they competed against each other during this period
While not as popular as the English Premier League, the Scottish Premier Leagues fans are just as passionate as the English!
