NBA betting
The regular season runs from October to April and contains 30 teams mainly from the USA split into two conferences, Eastern and Western.
After every team has played 82 games, the top six from each conference head to the playoffs, while the teams finishing between seventh and 10th get involved in a play-in tournament to determine the final 16.
In the playoffs, best-of-seven series determine which team progresses to the next round until the final two play in the NBA Championship match in June.
If you’re interested in NBA betting then Coral is the place to be. Games take place almost every night for six months and we have odds on every one of them as well as NBA title odds on the team that wins the championship.
Below, we take a look at some of the basketabll betting odds options available to Coral customers.
NBA odds
The main NBA odds market is the money line, equivalent to the match result in football, in which you simply predict which team you think will win.
In basketball, games go to overtime if the scores are tied at the end of 48 minutes, but Coral still offers NBA betting odds on a draw in our Match Betting option.
The focal point of NBA betting, though, is the spread which is the equivalent of the handicap in sports like football or rugby union and league.
A range of spreads are set for each game, so for example the first one you see may be -1.5
which means the home team must win by at least two points to be successful and obviously the away team would get a two-points head start. The NBA odds for both teams in this market are displayed when you click on the dropdown.
The spreads are then arranged numerically so the last minus figure may be -15.5 which means the hosts have to win by at least 16 points.
A positive spread such as +5.5 means the home team can afford to lose by five points for a successful bet, but the visiting side has to win by six.
Spreads are very popular, but Coral also offers other types of bets such as the NBA Championship odds in which we list all 30 teams and their prospects of winning the title.
These odds are updated every day, so if you’re interested in picking the overall champion over the course of the season, this NBA betting option is the way to go.
In addition to the NBA winner odds, you can also bet on the team to finish top of the Eastern and Western Conferences or the six divisions: Atlantic, Central, Southeast, Northwest, Pacific and Southwest.
Although basketball is a team sport, individuals are rightly recognised for their contribution throughout the season and there is always speculation on which player will land the prestigious Most Valuable Player award.
As the season progresses, Coral is on the ball with NBA MVP odds as well as its rookie equivalent for players competing in their first season.
How do I bet on NBA games?
NBA betting is relatively straightforward and although we offer almost 200 markets per match, there are just a handful of key options, one of the main ones being Total Points.
Here, a prediction is made on whether the cumulative points scored by both teams, including overtime, will be under or over at the stated odds.
For example, if the 76ers beat the Suns 114-110 and you placed a bet at 11/8 on the game producing more than 222.5 points then you have a winning ticket in your hand.
Bigger NBA odds can be found in the Winning Margin market in which each option is separated by bands of five points e.g. 76ers to win by 11-15 pts at 7/1.
There are also Total Points Bands restricted to regular time in which each option covers 10 points, so 201-210 for example may be priced at 4/1, while 241 or more is available at 13/2.
Basketball is a game split into quarters, so it will come as no surprise to learn we have spreads and money lines on the first 12 minutes and the half, while we also offer odds on the first team to reach a certain number of points ranging from five to 50.
Whether you’re new to basketball or have been following the sport for years, Coral offers a great range of odds in NBA betting and you can even watch the games live in the sportsbook for nothing.
Now that’s what we call a free throw.
