World Matchplay 2nd round: Phil Taylor to tussle with The Hammer

The second round of a so far enthralling World Matchplay Darts competition continues, so Coral writers bring you the best bets available to back in Blackpool.
Big-names and darting greats are out in force for Wednesday evening’s session, though the tournament has already had several sensational high-profile casualties. Who will be the second round surprise package, and who will be the next to fall in the Winter Gardens?
Top prospect Brown, meanwhile, was the talk of Blackpool after brilliantly beating experienced Scot Robert Thornton 10-7. The young-gun is 9/4 to pull-off another shock result, but is crucially yet to defeat Chizzy in six meetings.

The History Maker is a tempting price at 3/1 to live up to his nickname, having never made it past the last-16 before, while darting star The Machine is match favourite at 1/4, and should just about squeeze past, with nine previous wins over his opponent. Though, two victories apiece from their past two duels suggests this could be a close clash, with odds of 15/2 for Wade to win 13-10 enticing.
While the former World Matchplay semi-finalist is firing on all cylinders and surely high on confidence following his opening game antics, facing The Power on the Blackpool Oche is another matter entirely.
Taylor, in the hunt for his 16th World Matchplay trophy, trounced John Henderson 10-2 in his first outing, and has vanquished The Hammer 36 times previously, losing just five. Having also triumphed against his fellow Stoke-born sportsman three times in this tournament before, The Power (a superb 7/4 to be King of the Oche) is heavily odds-on at 1/10 to do so again.
Unseeded Mensur Suljovic is an unknown quantity to Anderson, with the pair having never played each other before, and The Gentle is 6/1 to use that to his advantage and take the spoils, though The Flying Scotsman will be eager to improve on last year’s semi-final finish and should prove too much for his Serbia-born opponent. Back Anderson to at 8/1 to win 13-5.
