Published:Odds, preview and betting tipsfor this year’s Arnold Palmer Invitational
It’s time to head back forthe annual weekend of PGA tour action at the Bay Hill Club and Lodge in Orlando,Florida for the Arnold Palmer Invitational.
Although this year’s event willbe without one of the world’s biggest golfing icons, Tiger Woods, who hasdecided to sit out the Invitational due to concerns over his back, there’sstill a long list of the PGA’s biggest names who’ll stake their claim for thetitle.
2019 champion Francesco Molinariis back to defend his crown, but he’s not made the ideal start to the 2020 PGATour. He’s failed to make the cut in three of his six tournaments so far, withhis best result coming at the WGC-HSBC Champions in November, where he tied for22nd place.
Rory McIlroy leads the way in the betting as the 9/2favourite. Tommy Fleetwood follows, with the man from Southport looking toclaim a first PGA event title. He’s 12/1.
Hideki Matsuyama has looked good recently, which hasseen him shoot up the order. He’s joint third favourite at 16/1, wherehe’s joined by American Bryson DeChambeau.
Xander Schauffele roundsoff the top five in the betting at 18/1. You can find Brooks Koepka,Rickie Fowler and Justin Rose at 28s, 30s and 40s respectively. Defendingchampions Francesco Molinari is a 90/1 outsider.
He’ll have to be on top of his game to fend off some ofthose challengers who are at the peak of their abilities right now. RoryMcIlroy returned to the top of the Official World Golf Ranking in February, 53months after losing the No.1 ranking.
The Northern Irishman hasn’t finished outside the top 5 inany of his five PGA Tour appearances so far this year, winning the WGC-HSBCChampions with a score of 19-under-par. He’s got previous on this course too, winning the 2018 event by three strokes.
It was Bryson DeChambeau that missed out to McIlroy on thatday, but the 26-year-old American will be back in the hope of winning thisyear. He’s got experience of picking up PGA Tour wins with two to his name, thelast of which was back in September 2018 where he won the Dell TechnologiesChampionship by two strokes from Justin Rose.
DeChambeau’s form hasn’t been sensational of late, with only three top 10 finishes in this year’s tour, but his best spell of golf came last time out at the WGC-Mexico Championship, where he finished second to Patrick Reed by just one shot.
Hideki Matsuyama has been finding his form in recent weeks, placing tied fifth at the Genesis Invitational and tied sixth at the WGC-MexicoChampionship. But after only failing to make the cut in one of his last 10tournament entries. He’s looking a strong outside shot to top the leaderboardhere.
Can McIlroy further cement his place at the top of theOfficial World Golf Ranking, or will we see one of the chasing pack producefour perfect rounds of golf? It’s likely to be another great four days ofaction at the Bay Hill course for the latest PGA Tour event.
