US PGA Championship: 25/1 winner
Published:Jason Day picked to shine at Quail Hollow
It’s the final golf major of the year – the US PGA Championship and Coral are betting on a number of markets, including outright winner, first round leader, two and three balls as well as some exciting specials. Who will finish as the highest ranked European player? Make your opinions count.
It’s a real standout event in the sporting calendar and Coral traders make it easier to mark the occasion with a big priced winner. Place your bets on the champion and we’ll give you stunning each-way terms of 1/5 the odds the best 10 players. Yes, that’s a nice pay-out for a top-10 finish.
Walker has little chance of two
Quail Hollow Club plays hosts to the 99th edition of this famous tournament, and Rory McIlroy travels as competition favourite in the betting ring. Fancy him for the hat-trick? The 28-year-old Northern Irishman has won this title twice before, in 2012 at Kiawah Island, South Carolina and then again two years later at Valhalla Golf Club, Kentucky. Rors to land a third is 11/2.
Prefer to have your cash on a more recent winner? Jimmy Walker landed the title last year, the first major of his career, but there’s little chance of the 38-year-old American defending, with our sports team offering a hefty 100/1. A nice price, of course, but we’re happy to look past both men in an attempt to find a decent priced winner of our own.
Day’s winning score deserves respect
The player to carry our stake money in North Carolina is another recent champion in Jason Day. The 29-year-old Australian claimed this crown in 2015 at Whistling Straits, Wisconsin. Day handed in a tally of 20 under par to get his hands on the winner’s cheque, and that would’ve been enough to score in any of the last 10 renewals. That remains his only major title so far, but he has finished runner-up at both the Masters and US Open.
The former world number one has endured a bit of a rollercoaster year, on and off course, but arrives in high spirits, telling reporters this week that he plans to stop expecting so much from himself and get back to enjoying golf. Having taken time away from the sport for family reasons, he’s now back and determined to return to the number one spot.
Take advantage of our 10 places each-way
We have faith he’ll do just that. Capping a tough 2017 with another US PGA title – wouldn’t that be something special? The challenges of Quail Hollow will play to Jason Day’s strengths, if he can handle the forecast rain. It’s all about length off the tee here, something that’s never been a problem for the selection, and the tournament will be won and lost with the driver in hand.
Fancy Day to come out on top? Coral are giving 25/1 that we’re right, and those stuck on the fence can take full advantage of our incredible each-way terms of 1/5 the odds the best 10. There are a number of ways to back Day – he’s 33/1 to be first round leader, 5/4 for a top-20 finish or 11/8 jolly to be the top Australian.
