Four US Open 2016 semi-finals tips

Andy Murray’s quest for a fourth Grand Slam title ended unexpectedly in the US Open 2016 quarter-finals, with the Scot going down to Japanese tennis ace Kei Nishikori in five sets.

Dangerous wildcard Juan Martin del Potro also found reaching the semis a step too far as he fell to Switzerland’s Stan Wawrinka 3-1, who now meets Nishikori. ATP world number one Novak Djokovic faces Gael Monfils in the other final four fixture.

In the women’s singles, meanwhile, Serena Williams remains on course to set a new Open Era record for Grand Slams, having beaten Simona Halep in three sets.

Now the WTA’s top lady will be out to avenge sister Venus, who fell to 10th seed Karolina Pliskova earlier on at Flushing Meadows. The semis lineup is completed by rejuvenated Caroline Wozniacki against world number two Angelique Kerber.

What are the best bets from these four fixtures then? Coral tennis experts have got their heads together and come up with top US Open 2016 semi-finals tips for you to take…

Serena Williams handicap bets: She’s got it covered v Piskova

With the dominant force in women’s tennis odds-on in virtually every other market, it’s to Serena Williams handicap bets that we recommend you turn in search of some value.

An even-money price says Serena can cover the handicap, which requires her to overcome a deficit of 5.5 games in victorious sets and still win. In her only previous meeting with Pliskova, Williams ran out a 7-5 6-2 victor – a difference of six.

Serena’s current form at her home Grand Slam also suggests this is worth a wager, with all her winning sets adding up to the same margin minimum.

Wozniacki to win second set v Kerber

Denmark’s current top tennis export Wozniacki saves her best performances for Flushing Meadows, where she is a two-time singles runner-up.

Holding a slender 5-4 head-to-head advantage of reigning Australian Open champion Kerber from nine career hard court meetings, Wozniacki has also won both previous encounters on American soil.

That might make 2/1 odds for Wozniacki to dump the second seed out tempting, but there’s a safer 13/8 price on offer to her win the second set – something the Dane has done two-thirds of the time on this surface.

Djokovic to muller Monfils in straight sets

Deadly Serbia star Djokovic now has a 13th Grand Slam title firmly in his sights, and French foe Monfils is hardly one he is going to fear.

Holding a 100 per cent win record from 11 previous meetings on hard courts, Djokovic has earned straight victories in the last two head-to-heads, including this year’s Canadian Masters.

Back a 3-0 result in Djokovic’s favour again at 10/11 is also tempting because that was the margin of victory in the 2010 US Open encounters with Monfils.

Nishikori to make US Open final in four

And finally among our US Open 2016 semi-finals tips comes a tough to call contest between third and sixth seeds Wawrinka and Nishikori.

Having beaten Murray and made the final two years ago, it’s with the Far East player we suggest you side. Nishikori knocked Wawrinka out en route to being runner-up at Flushing Meadows in what proved to be a thrilling five-setters.

This time it’s tempting to take superb 7/2 odds for Nishikori to win in four sets, as 60 per cent of his matches in this run have been 3-1 victories.
