US Open betting tips and odds

The third golf major of the year gets under way at Los Angeles Country Club on Thursday and we have studied the odds to pick out some 2023 US Open betting tips.

Last year’s runner-up Scottie Scheffler is the 13/2 favourite in Coral’s US Open outright odds to finally get his hands on the trophy.

Brooks Koepka has had somewhat of a revival recently, culminating in his US PGA Championship win last month, and he is joint-second favourite at 9/1 with Spaniard Jon Rahm.

Coral’s Lewis Knowles said: ‘’Scottie Scheffler has played some truly outstanding golf of late, but it’s been a case of ‘close but no cigar’ for him in the majors so far this year.

“We’ve certainly seen plenty of support for him in our US Open market, and punters will be hoping his consistency is rewarded this week in Los Angeles.”

For punters seeking to take on the favourites, here are our US Open betting tips for this week.

Patrick Cantlay

Few players know the layout at Los Angeles Country Club better than Cantlay, who is a former course record-holder having attended UCLA.

He is yet to win a major but the same could be said for nine of the previous 11 US Open winners, including the last four, with Matt Fitzpatrick continuing that trend 12 months ago.

Of the current players on tour yet to win a major, Cantlay arguably looks the most ready having enjoyed four top-10 finishes including a tie for ninth at the US PGA Championship last month.

The California native has finished in the top 15 at the last four majors and has recently linked up with Tiger Woods’ caddie Joe LaCava so appeals as an each-way selection at 14/1 for the first of our 2023 US Open betting tips.

Cameron Smith

One of the players most relieved at the recent merger between the biggest golf tours may be Smith, who was one of the headline acquisitions by the money men at LIV.

The LIV schedule meant Smith’s season did not start until late January and he made a slow start to the year, having been one of the stars of 2022 when his victory at The Open was the highlight.

There are signs he is getting back to his best though and his final-round 65 – the joint-best round of the week – saw him secure a top-10 finish at the US PGA.

The Australian was ranked third in the world at the end of 2022 and with the pressure and scrutiny of his LIV switch easing, he could be a value pick at 22/1 in the 2023 US Open odds.

Brooks Koepka to beat Rory McIlroy

Away from the outright winner odds, Coral have plenty of other markets and Koepka is up against Rory McIlroy in the tournament match betting.

Koepka now looks close to returning to the form which saw him secure back-to-back US Open titles in 2017 and 2018 and his recent US PGA success means he now has more major wins than regular PGA Tour titles.

McIlroy has won four majors but it is nine years since the last of them and while he may be in decent form on the PGA Tour, Koepka is more consistent when it comes to the big occasions and is 19/20 to perform better than the Northern Irishman.

For punters who fancy both players to perform well this week, Coral’s Odds Booster of 6/1 for either Koepka or McIlroy to win may appeal.
