Tottenham v Chelsea Betting Tips: Can Spurs take a big step towards silverware?
Published:Odds and preview for Carabao Cup semi-final first leg
It’s all to play for when Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea face off in the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final tonight.
Mauricio Pochettino has done a remarkable job at Spurs. But he’s still chasing his first piece of silverware for the club. Is this his best chance yet?
Add the rivalry between the two clubs into the equation and this could be a cracking cup tie. It gets underway at 8:00pm on Sky Sports Football and we’ve got all the key odds right here…
Head-to-Head
Spurs tore through Chelsea when they met in November, running out 3-1 winners. Pochettino’s side have won four of the last 10 meetings, while Chelsea have won three.
The hosts may edge the recent head-to-head record, but Chelsea have beaten them at Wembley twice in the last three years. Marcos Alonso got a brace in a 2-1 win last term. They also won 4-2 in the 2016-17 FA Cup semi-final.
Likely XIs
Both sides are likely to name strong teams here, with the final within touching distance.
Spurs could give Paulo Gazzaniga a game in goal, but it’s likely to be close to their strongest XI otherwise.
Sarri may give game time to the likes Emerson Palmieri and Andreas Christensen here. However, his biggest decision will be who to play on the right flank. With doubts over Willian and Pedro’s fitness, Callum Hudson-Odoi could have another chance to impress.
Key Battles
Can Chelsea cope with Spurs’ energy? They had no answer for the North London side’s pressing back in November. They’ll need Jorginho to put in a big midfield performance to avoid a repeat.
But Eden Hazard has the quality to put Sarri’s side in a great position going into the second leg. Kieran Trippier has been shaky at right-back for Spurs lately. Hazard could give him a very tough evening here.
Match Odds
Our traders can’t call this one. They have Spurs as narrow 6/4 favourites, with Chelsea only just behind at 7/4. There’s 5/2 about the draw.
Spurs have won the last two games between these sides 3-1. We go 18/1 for a threepeat.
Harry Kane leads the way in the goalscoring markets. We go 10/3 that he opens the scoring and 11/10 anytime.
Dele Alli could be one to watch too. He’s scored six goals in six appearances against tonight’s opponents. The England ace is 14/5 to grab another in this one.
Hazard is Chelsea’s likeliest scorer at 17/10 anytime, with Alvaro Morata 15/8 to follow up his brace at the weekend with another goal.
