Coral's English Open quarter-finals tips look at best Higgins v Trump odds for the snooker at EventCity in Manchester.

Coral English Open quarter-finals tips

The inaugural Coral English Open has already produced an abundance of epic match-ups and unexpected upsets on the baize at EventCity in Manchester, with world number one Mark Selby, Neil Robertson and pre-tournament favourite Ronnie O’Sullivan all knocked out early.

Many more thrills and spills are sure to occur as we reach the exciting quarter-final stage.

It’s now best-of-nine frames, and the tie of the round sees four-time Crucible king John Higgins collide with young pretender Judd Trump.

Coral snooker experts pick out the best bets from that battle and the three other last eight encounters. Here are our English Open quarter-finals tips for punters to enjoy…

Walden to lead Hawkins 3-1 after four frames

Barry Hawkins has risen to prominence in recent years with impressive performances at the Crucible, but next opponent Ricky Walden could prove a tough test for the Ditton potter.

The Hawk has lost three of his last four meetings with Walden, proving he struggles to crack the Walnut in their meetings.

All of those Walden victories have seen him establish a 3-1 lead after four frames, so side with the Walnut at 3/1 for a repeat scoreline here.

Higgins v Trump odds for a deciding frame

In their two previous best-of-nine encounters, Scottish potter Higgins and Bristol break-builder Trump have gone to a deciding frame, with the Wizard of Wishaw triumphing both times.

This may make a 13/2 price for Higgins to win 5-4 again tempting, but a safer 27/10 says his match with the Juddernaught shall go the distance again.

Given how unpredictable the Coral English Open has been so far, it seems wiser to take the Higgins v Trump odds for there to be a deciding frame instead.

Hamilton to beat Liang Wenbo

The Sheriff of Pottingham has laid down the law to snooker rivals at this event with a rare return to form. Anthony Hamilton now tackles Chinese cueman Liang Wenbo – a foe we feel the Nottingham native can turn over.

Veteran Hamilton has demonstrated in shorter frame format snooker this week that the old magic is still there, and he should use all his experience to put pressure on his Oriental opponent.

Back Hamilton to beat Liang Wenbo at 15/8 and continue this incredible run at the Coral English Open.

Bingham to cover three-frame handicap (with tie) on Wakelin

Chris Wakelin produced the upset of the event so far by dispatching tournament favourite and five-time world champion O’Sullivan, earning an impressive 4-3 triumph over the Rocket.

Although, that victory may be the highlight of his campaign as former Crucible victor Bingham enters on the back of a dominant 4-1 success over Rhys Clark. Therefore, back in-form Ball Run to cover a three-frame handicap at 19/10.
