Rumour reel: Watford want Arsenal defender Kieran Gibbs

Hornets could offer defender a way out
Manchester United finally got their man, signing Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic in a £40m deal. Jose Mourinho had been chasing the 28-year-old all summer, and tied him down on a three-year deal.
Matic becomes the third new signing at Old Trafford this summer, following Victor Lindelof from Benfica and Romelu Lukaku from Everton. Mourinho wants Gareth Bale, but is that little more than rumour? Here’s the latest from the transfer window…..

Silva to swoop on Gibbs
Marco Silva was persuaded to move to London and take charge of Watford, passing Walter Mazzarri at the Vicarage Road revolving door. The gaffer took to the media and issued a plea to his board, saying the team are in desperate need of new signings before the first game of the season vs Liverpool on Saturday 12th August. The next man through the door is expected to be Arsenal defender Kieran Gibbs. The 27-year-old had been linked to West Brom, but The Baggies pulled out, paving the way for Silva to swoop. Gibbs was left out of his side’s pre-season tour, making it fairly obvious his time is running out at the Emirates. If the player is willing to take a drop in wages, a move across London looks likely.
Barcelona offer £50m for Ozil
The Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona story rumbles on, with neither side willing to back down. Barcelona have set a deadline however, and if they can’t get the Brazilian to La Liga this week, they will close the offer and focus their attentions on another Premier League star in Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil. The Spaniards are willing to offer £50m+ for the 28-year-old German, who we thought would’ve left the Emirates long ago. The midfielder is involved in a bit of a stand-off with his current employers, with Arsene Wenger telling the press he believes it’ll become the norm for big name players to run down their contract in an attempt to catch the attention of big name managers.

Everton to test West Ham with £9m bid
It wouldn’t be a rumour reel without giving Everton a mention, and although they have been linked with just about every decent player in the Premier League over the last month or so, they’re now moving in on West Ham centre-back Winston Reid. The Toffees are building a squad capable of fighting on all fronts, Premier League, Europa League and domestic trophies. The Stratford club say they won’t sell the New Zealand star to a league rival, but that theory is about to be tested to the tune of £9m. Small change in comparison to some of the deals being done at the minute, but still enough to get the Londoners’ attention.
