Rumour reel: Sanchez to Man City

Who’s going where, and when?

We may still be in the early exchanges of the British summertime, but some clubs are already back hard at it, with the opening rounds of the Champions League and Europa League qualifiers taking place in late June/early July. For the rest, they’re busy sorting through their transfer dramas.

Sanchez looks set for the Etihad

Alexis Sanchez has been impressing at the Confederations Cup, but his long-term future at club level remains a mystery. It seems he wants out of Arsenal, and a move to a more ambitious club during the transfer window. Chelsea, Bayern Munich and Man City were thought to be interested, but The Blues seem to have gone quiet on that front, while Bayern Munich appear to have been scared off by the rising price tag coming out of the Emirates. That just leaves Man City, and newspaper reports say the player will be off there when returning from Russia. The 28-year-old is valued at around £50m by the Londoners.

Far from plain sailing at Chelsea

With the Premier League title in the bag and money to spend, we expected Chelsea to hit the ground running in the transfer market – selling Diego Costa to the highest bidder and bringing in a clutch of new faces in plenty of time for an assault on the Champions League and two-in-a-row. It’s not happened so far, and Costa remains at the club, causing nothing but bad press. Chelsea were closing in on a move for Juventus defender Alex Sandro, with a deal for the 26-year-old all but complete, but PSG have thrown a spanner in the works. The French side are said to be admirers, and are willing to meet the £60m asking price.

Wenger ready to get busy

There’s much to do at Arsenal if Arsene Wenger wants to improve on last season’s miserable effort. With or without Sanchez in the team, they need an injection of fresh talent in north London, and the gaffer has already slapped in his demands. They submitted a bid of £30m for Monaco attacker Thomas Lemar, and are shaping to make a cash offer for Leicester’s Riyad Mahrez. Both men would be warmly welcomed by fans. Nice midfielder Jean Michael Seri is thought to be another in their sights. We’ll keep you posted on all movements there.
