Rumour reel: Costa prepared to take Chelsea to court
Published:What’s making news on Saturday
Upon his arrival in Paris, Brazilian wonderkid Neymar told the press it’s sad that people think his record-breaking £200m move from Barcelona to PSG was motivated by money. Wow, the boy doesn’t really help himself, does he?
We’ll ignore the fact the 25-year-old is being paid over £40m a year to play for the French club. So, now that we’ve established money doesn’t come in to it, we can get back to football. Neymar could feature in PSG’s first league match of the season vs Amiens on Saturday. Domestic action is also back today, let’s get the latest from our rumour reel…..
Costa threatening legal action
What’s going on with Diego Costa? The last we heard the striker was given an extended summer holiday by Chelsea, told he didn’t have to report back to training for as long as he wanted. That’s a very understanding employer. Everyone thought the Spaniard would be long gone by now, China, Atletico Madrid, whoever, Antonio Conte just wanted rid, but the 28-year-old seems no closer to finding a new club, and we’re now a week away from the start of the new Premier League season. There hasn’t been the rush of agents banging on the door that Costa expected. In a bid to get things moving, the player will hand in a formal transfer request, but his lawyers are also threatening legal action after Chelsea stopped a loan move to AC Milan. That deal would’ve taken him to January, when he would’ve then signed for Atletico.
Everton want to pair Rooney with Giroud
We won’t get bored of Everton during this transfer window, as The Toffees have made the summer months bearable. There’s been few managers as active as Ronald Koeman over the last few months, and none quite as ambitious. The gaffer has got just about every player he has bid for, and now has a squad list fit to burst. He’s not done yet though, and as well as Swansea midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson, the Dutchman could also be about to make a move on Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud. There’s no room at the Emirates for Giroud, it would seem, and although West Ham had shown an interest, they quickly withdrew that when realising the Frenchman wasn’t game for a switch across London. 30-year-old Giroud still has plenty to offer at this level, and him teaming up in the Everton attack with Wayne Rooney would be worth seeing. If he fancies staying in England, the option is there.
Spurs target big name striker
Tottenham have been linked with a big-name player that has got fans excited, but it’s not what you might expect. Spurs have made enquiries about taking Genoa forward Giovanni Simeone to the club. Name sound familiar? It should, as he’s the son of Diego Simeone, the Argentine star who lit up the game during his time at Inter, Lazio and Atletico Madrid. El Cholo is now manager at Los Colchoneros, of course, but there’s a big future in the game for his son too, and he rattled in a dozen Serie A goals last term, despite costing less than £3m. Genoa got him on the cheap, but after helping launch his career, they want big bucks, and aren’t prepared to let their hot-shot go for anything less than £18m. Will Simeone sit behind Harry Kane and learn his trade? We’ll bring you more on that when it comes through.
