Rumour reel: Barcelona to bid for Tottenham ace Dele Alli
Published:Spanish giants admirers of English midfielder
Welcome to a brand-new week and the big kick-off in the English Premier League is now just four days away. Arsenal host Leicester on Friday evening at the Emirates to bring the curtain up, but there’s still much work to be done before the summer transfer window slams shut.
All the talk over the last few days has been about Neymar’s £200m move from Barcelona to PSG, and we’ll hear plenty more on that before the La Liga giants let it go, but with a fresh week comes a fresh start and we’ll have no more mention of record-breaking transfers or player’s dads. Here’s what else is making news on Monday…..
Barca want Spurs star
Speaking of Barcelona, settle in for a few weeks of them being linked to every major player in Europe. The Spaniards have money to burn and a point to prove. They’ve been knocked down a peg or two, but we don’t doubt for a second that bosses at the Nou Camp will be planning their response, and it’ll come in the form of a major name. They’ve already been linked with a host of famous faces, and the latest coming out in the press is Tottenham and England midfielder Dele Alli. The 21-year-old from Milton Keynes isn’t up for sale, but when Barcelona come calling, you listen carefully. The club have been desperately seeking a talented central midfielder all summer, and Alli’s name is at the top of their wish-list.
Everton after Welbeck and Vermaelen
Moving over to Goodison Park, and despite already making a long list of ambitious signings this summer, Everton are in the market for a few more. We spoke over the weekend about The Toffees’ intention to move for Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud, seeing the Frenchman, who has been frozen out at the Emirates, as a perfect strike partner for Wayne Rooney. Giroud is keen on a move back to France, according to some sections of the media, and has already knocked back interest from West Ham, so if that doesn’t go through, the blues will submit an offer for team-mate Danny Welbeck. An all-English forward line would be worth a look. At the other end, an agreement has already been struck between Koeman and Belgian defender Thomas Vermaelen, but that depends on who you listen to.
Bayern’s £50m bid for Dier
Tottenham could be a victim of their own success, with Europe’s big boys eying their best players. Barcelona want Dele Alli and Bayern Munich are keen on bringing Eric Dier to the Allianz Arena. FCB boss Carlo Ancelotti won the German top-flight last term and see Dier as a perfect addition to their midfield in time for this season’s assault on the Champions League. Tottenham won’t be in a rush to lose their prize possession but the Germans will put together a £50m package, and that may just get things moving. The retirements of Xabi Alonso and Philipp Lahm leaves Bayern a bit lightweight in the middle. It’ll be an interesting few weeks for manager Mauricio Pochettino.
