Rising star Spieth on course for second Major, Woods exits US Open

Jordan Spieth (11/5 favourite) is no doubt one of golf’s newest stars, and the 21-year-old is already on course to take his second Major as he jointly leads the way at the US Open after the second round.
Texas-born Spieth, who claimed the US Masters title this year, caught up by four shots after the first day as he carded a 67 to overtake then-leaders Dustin Johnson (9/2) and Henrik Stenson (22/1), and is now on -5.
He joins fellow American youngster Patrick Reed (6/1) at he top of the leaderboard, with Johnson, still looking for his first Major, one shot back along with South Africa Branden Grace (12/1).
Elsewhere, at the opposite end of the table, Tiger Woods has failed to make the cut after posting the worst 36-hole total of his career, as he finished on -16.
However, the 14-time Major winner is at least in good company, as he is still ahead of 2011 Open champion Darren Clarke and was two shots behind world number nine Rickie Fowler, who came second at this tournament last year.
Rory McIlroy (50/1), meanwhile, is all-but out of contention of emulating his 2011 success at the US Open, being nine shots off the pace on +4 after round two, mainly due his lack of luck on the greens.
The world number one carded a successive 72, which puts him two behind 2013 champion Justin Rose (55/1) and one off six-time runner-up Phil Mickelson (70/1).
There was a worrying moment at one point on day two, as Australian Jason Day (25/1) appeared to collapse on his final hole, apparently due to suffering from vertigo, but thankfully was able to card -2.
His management team assured fans: “Jason was diagnosed to have suffered from benign positional vertigo. He was treated locally by Dr Robert Stoecker and Dr Charles Souliere and is resting comfortably.
“His condition is being monitored closely and he is hopeful he will be able to compete this weekend in the final rounds of the US Open.”
