Premier League Darts – Whitlock 7/4 to best James Wade on Night 13
Published:The Premier League Darts regular season is nearing it’s frantic conclusion and Simon Whitlock is staging a late assault on the play-off places on the tail of the much improved Phil Taylor. “The Power” is 4/9 to avenge an early season loss to Robert Thornton, whilst “the Wizard” is a lively 7/4 underdog in his clash with James Wade, occupant of the final play-off berth.
Simon Whitlock is enjoying a resurgence of late, winning three of his last four matches after snapping a three game losing streak that included a particularly disheartening 1-7 loss to Robert Thornton.
Night 12 saw him halt table-topping Michael van Gerwen’s five-match winning run before going down in a spirited 4-7 showing to the resurgent Phil Taylor and the “Thunder from Down Under” can get the better of James Wade in the pair’s Liverpool encounter.
Wade comes into the match off the back of a wide margin defeat and he’s been the loser eight of the last 10 times he’s stepped onto the oche against Whitlock, who is a generously priced 7/4 underdog with Coral.
Robert Thornton faces a teeth-chattering run-in with clashes against van Barneveld and van Gerwen on the menu, but first he must face Phil Taylor in a bid to keep his play-off quest in motion – if he overcomes the Stoke darter it would be the first time in Premier League history that any one has done the double over “The Power”.
However the Phil Taylor he beat earlier in the campaign was a shadow of the thrower who has racked up three wins and a draw in his last four matches. “The Power” seems to be coming good just as the early pacesetters are starting to find more middling form, a fact illustrated by his move to the top of the league’s three dart average table.
Revenge for his defeat at the hands of “The Thorn” is on the cards at the Echo Arena and Taylor is 4/9 to crunch Thornton like the very crisps that sponsor this fine competition.
The contrast in mood between Raymond van Barneveld and his Week 13 opponent Adrian Lewis couldn’t be more stark. Barney dispatched James Wade 7-2 in Week 12, throwing a three dart average of in excess of 104, whilst his adversary in Liverpool slipped to his fourth and fifth successive defeats in the competition.
The Dutch darter is 4/9 to continue “Jackpot’s” streak of misery at the Echo Arena with Coral.
