As the new term draws ever closer, teams from all tiers in England are getting in their preparation for the campaign with pre-season friendlies.

Here’s how things unfolded, including sides from the Championship and Premier League..

Swindon Town 1-4 West Bromwich Albion
James Morrison netted twice as the visitors earned a comfortable victory on their travels to the County Ground.

Victor Anichebe capitalised on a defensive error to slot home the Baggies’ third, while Stephane Sessegnon struck late on, before Yaser Kasim redeemed his earlier mistake with a consolation goal. West Brom are 9/2 with Coral to be relegated next season.

Brentford 2-0 Stoke City
Bojan Krkic made a welcome return to action for the Potters in a defeat to Championship outfit Brentford, with Mark Hughes’ men suffering a shock loss at Griffin Park.

Andy Gogia’s shot after half an hour struck Ryan Shawcross’ head and looped over Jack Butland, and Marinus Dijkhuizen’s side sealed their win 16 minutes from time when Stuart Dallas struck from a tight angle after a corner.

Walsall 1-1 Aston Villa
Tim Sherwood’s Villa side let a narrow lead slip and had to settle for a draw in the Midlands derby at Banks’s Stadium.

The travelling side, who gave Idrissa Gueye his debut, took the lead through Callum Robinson’s finish from close range on 21 minutes, but Walsall equalised before half-time when Anthony Forde’s free-kick took a deadly deflection off the wall.

Mansfield Town 1-1 Leicester City
Claudio Ranieri’s second match in charge of Leicester ended level against the League Two Stags at Field Mill, with David Nugent’s opener being cancelled out by a Matt Green penalty.

Nottingham Forest 1-1 Swansea City
Andre Ayew scored his first goal for Swansea on the hour mark since his move from Marseille at the City Ground, but were denied victory by Robert Tesche’s header only 10 minutes later.

Augsburg 1-2 Norwich City
The Canaries fought back from a goal down to beat the German side with two late goals at the WWK Arena, with Youssouf Mulumbu and Lewis Grabban capping off a comeback, after Piotr Trochowski had opened proceedings.

Dundee United 0-1 Watford
The Hornets made it four wins from five friendlies with Troy Deeney scoring the winner at Tannadice, as his second-half header earned an away win.

Charlton Athletic 0-0 West Ham United
Slaven Bilic’s side struggled to break down the Championship team at The Valley, less than 48 hours after their Europa League victory on penalties against Birkirkara in Malta.

Hoffenheinm 2-1 Leeds United
Tom Adeyemi scored his first Leeds goal in their 2-1 defeat to German side Hoffenheim. The Yorkshire club are 10/1 to be promoted next term from the Championship.

Sheffield United 2-2 Newcastle United
Newcastle’s stuttering pre-season form continued as they were held to a 2-2 draw by League One side Sheffield United at Bramall Lane in Chris Morgan’s testimonial clash.

Georginio Wijnaldum struck first, with Marc McNulty, Siem de Jong and Kieron Freeman ensuring an entertaining stalemate.
