The Spider, Bull and Gentle all in Monday afternoon action
Monday’s afternoon session on day 10 of a so far thrilling 2016 World Darts Championship promises to provide even more tournament highlights, as crowd-pleasers Terry Jenkins, Mark Webster and Mensur Suljovic star.
The highlight looks set to be a top-draw tungsten tussle between The Bull and The Spider, though there is plenty more oche action to enjoy. Read on to find out who we rate to win each fixture…
Alan Norris v Joe Murnan
Though, Somerset-born star Norris knocked out top seed Robert Thornton in a festive shock before Christmas, and his excellent average of 96.88 plus impressive whitewashing of recent World Grand Prix winner The Thorn sees him priced as odds-on 4/11 favourite to reach the third round.
Murnan, meanwhile, took advantage of a wobble from Andy Hamilton but was far from outstanding, so it may be worth backing Shaggy at 10/3 to fall by a 4-2 margin to 2014 BDO World Championship runner-up Chuck, who now looks made for the PDC version.
Terry Jenkins v Mark Webster
Jenkins was incredibly slow in his opener, despite eventually dumping American opponent Darin Young out, which explains why crowd hero The Bull is only even-money to make it through this match-up.
By contrast, 4/5 favourite Webster whitewashed a gutsy Mick McGowan and is now aiming to suck Jenkins into his web. This one could really go all the way, but back in-form The Spider at 9/2 to spin himself out of any trouble with a 4-3 triumph.
Dave Pallett v Mensur Suljovic
The 25-year-old Englishman erupted as if from nowhere to sink experienced Kim Huybrechts in one of many first round upsets. Plucky Pallett matched everything the Belgian could muster, though Austrian Suljovic (4/11) and his distinct throwing style will be much tougher to topple.
Pallett has much to prove but should improve on his last meeting with The Gentle, though the Serbian-born arrowsmith should still progress, but this time looks tasty at 10/3 to do so by a 4-2 scoreline. Pallett, meanwhile is odds-on for most maximums, but you can instead plump for Suljovic to surprise at 10/3 again and rack-up more 180s.
