Preview and odds for this week’s European Tour event

Annika Sorenstam will play on home soil for the first time since 2008 at this week’s Scandinavian Mixed.

The co-sanctioned event between the European Tour and Ladies European Tour sees 78 men and 78 women tee off in Sweden over the same course for a shared €1,000,000 prize fund.

Sorenstam won 89 titles including 10 majors before retiring in 2008 to start a family, with the 50-year-old returning to the LPGA Tour after 13 years in February by making the cut at the Gainbridge LPGA.

Sorenstam, who will act as tournament co-host alongside compatriot Henrik Stenson, is a 500/1 chance and having played so little competitive golf in recent years is unlikely to feature in many Scandinavian Mixed betting tips.

Horsfield heads the market

England’s Sam Horsfield has been installed as the 16/1 favourite in the Scandinavian Mixed odds.

The 24-year-old was a late withdrawal from last week’s Porsche European Open after deciding to stay on in America after the US PGA Championship, but has travelled to Vallda Golf and Country Club.

Horsfield has finished no worse than 21st in his five regular European Tour events this season and has the second-best birdies-per-round average on tour this season.

Dutchman Joost Luiten, Finland’s Kalle Samooja and Australia’s Jason Scrivener are all just behind Horsfield in the market at 18/1.

Samooja and Scrivener have some solid form behind them but both are still seeking their first European Tour title, unlike Luiten, who is a six-time winner.

The 35-year-old has finished in the top 15 in his last five completed events and is third on the European Tour for greens in regulation this season, which is likely to be key on a 7,060-yard heathland course.

Women expected to make an impact

While the €1,000,000 purse may be modest by European Tour standards, it is one of the biggest on the Ladies European Tour this season.

As a result several big names are teeing up, including Solheim Cup stars Caroline Hedwall (pictured) and Emily Kristine Pedersen.

At 33/1 Pedersen is the shortest-priced woman in the field, along with teenage Thai star Atthaya Thitikul and Swedish amateur Maja Stark.

Pedersen has four LET wins in the last year and, with a short course negating any advantage the men might have off the tee, it would be a surprise if there were not a couple of women in the mix come Sunday afternoon.

Donaldson looking to return to winning ways

Jamie Donaldson

Jamie Donaldson is best known for earning the winning point at the 2014 Ryder Cup, but remarkably the Welshman has not won on the European Tour since.

He has recorded four top 20s in his last six starts though. Vallda features plenty of prominent bunkers and Donaldson, a 33/1 chance, is 13th on the European Tour this season for sand saves.

Jacques Kruyswijk is second in the shots gained around the green category and the South African is available at 50/1.
