Mayakoba Golf Classic Betting Preview: Will Justin Thomas deliver in Mexico?

Latest odds as Justin Thomas and Brooks Koepka line-up among a strong field
The PGA Tour heads to Mexico for the final leg of the 2020/21 season this year and two of the sport’s bigger names are making the trip south of the border.
We’ll take a look at the chances of Justin Thomas and Brooks Koepka at the El Camaleon Golf Club, along with some of the other players looking to make their Mayakoba mark – ahead of Wednesday’s tee-off.
The world No.3 has been consistently strong in recent months, boasting T10 finishes in four of his last five tournaments, including a fourth-place finish in the Masters a few weeks ago.
He’s without a win since the WGC FedEx St. Jude Invitational in August, but with the kind of form Thomas is in, surely it’s only a matter of time for the American.
Thomas hasn’t appeared in the Mayakoba Masters for five years, with a T23 finish on his debut there, but he’s made enormous improvements as a golfer since then and will firmly have a 14th PGA win in his sights here.
After an injury ravaged 2020, Koepka seems to be finding his feet, with a T7 finish in the Masters and a T5 in the Houston Open. That could mean that the Mayakoba Classic is coming at a perfect time for him.
However, Koepka is known as the kind of player who comes alive in Major events and could struggle for motivation as the PGA Tour winds down for the year.
Much like Justin Thomas, Koepka has skipped the Mayakoba Classic for a number of seasons, with his last appearance in 2013 seeing him miss the cut, but that’s unlikely to be a factor this week.
The first of two Mayakoba champions on this list, English’s last PGA Tour win came at the same course in 2013.
However, it’s his performance at the RSM Classic last month that bears more consideration, shooting 63 in his final round, for a T6 finish.
After a fourth-place finish in the US Open earlier in the year and on a course where he’s proven able to perform, English will be looking to add to his tally of two PGA Tour wins.
The winner of last year’s Mayakoba Classic returns to defend his throne, but like Koepka, injury has stalled his 2020.
Todd found himself on-fire at the end of 2019, winning the Bermuda Championship and Mayakoba Classic with just a few weeks in-between, before a fourth-placed finish at the RSM Classic.
In 2020, only a T8 in the BMW Championship has been worthy of note, as he failed to make the cut at both the Bermuda Championship and Masters, with a T37 at the RSM Classic in his most recent outing.
It will have been hugely frustrating for Todd to have seen his form stutter so badly, after a fantastic end to the previous year. Perhaps like many of us, he’ll be cutting his losses in 2020 and hoping for better things next year.
