The best Masters special bets for Augusta

All eyes will be on Augusta National as some of the world’s best golfers assemble for the first major of the golf season.

Having already looked at the leading contenders for the Green Jacket in our Masters betting tips, we now take a look at some of the Masters specials that are on offer at one of the biggest sporting events of the year. 

First-round leader 

It is perhaps no surprise that the favourite in our Masters betting tips, Jon Rahm, is also the 16/1 favourite to have his feet up in the clubhouse with the lead after round one.  

However, in the last 20 years only Jordan Spieth and Trevor Immelman have worn the Green Jacket having led after round one and it may be worth looking away from your outright fancy for any Masters specials bets on the first-round leader, with their average finishing position after four rounds being 13th.

England’s Justin Rose has more first-round leads than anyone else in the field and he is 50/1 to be at the top of the leaderboard on Thursday evening this time around, while fellow Brit Paul Casey had a share of the lead after round one last year and is 45/1 in our look at some Masters specials.  

To make/not make the cut  

The 10-shot rule for the halfway stage of the Masters has been removed in recent years, meaning only the top 50 on the leaderboard and ties will advance to the weekend.  

This means there is more chance of some of the biggest names in golf missing the cut if they make a slow start to the competition and makes the cut markets extremely interesting when it comes to selecting some Masters specials.  

Although the odds may not be very high for a top-10 player to make the cut, you could be rewarded with a handsome pay-out if you take an opinion against one of the world’s best and they fail to see out the week at Augusta.  

Top 5/Top-10 finish 

Although Coral are paying 10 places on each-way bets for the Masters, it may be easier to take winning out of the equation and simply backing a player to finish in the top five or top 10.  

Consistency often comes to the fore at Augusta and it is no surprise to see the same names cropping up towards the top of the leaderboard on the final day.  

Spieth comes alive around Augusta and the 2015 Masters champion has finished in the top three on five occasions from eight appearances at the first major of the season.

He looks a good bet for a top-five finish at 4/1 as one of our Masters specials, while Cameron Smith was second here in 2020 and having made the top 10 last year as well, is another to consider at 11/4.  

Looking at those that could finish in the top 10, Tony Finau is a 4/1 shot in Masters specials and has only once failed to finish outside of the top page on the leaderboard in four appearances in the competition.  

Although missing the cut in the defence of his title last year, Dustin Johnson is another consistent performer at Augusta and the 2020 champion, who is 6/4 for a top-10 finish, has Masters form figures of 1-2-10-6-4 in the five years prior to disappointing in 2021.  

Nationality of the winner 

Americans took home two of the major trophies in 2021 and it is 4/5 for a home player to wear the Green Jacket at the end of the fourth round, with the US providing the winner in seven of the last 12 years.  

It is 10/1 for an Englishman to follow in the footsteps of Danny Willett and come out on top, although Rose and Casey’s days at the golfing top table are probably over.

You can also get 10/11 for a non-American to win the Masters. With Rahm, Smith, Viktor Hovland and Rory McIlroy all non-Americans amongst the world’s top 10, that could be one of the best ways to tackle this Masters specials option. 

Holes-in-one 

There have been 33 holes-in-one at the Masters over the years and they have become more of a regular occurrence in the last 12 years with 12 aces finding the cup since the 2010 tournament.  

Last year Tommy Fleetwood aced the 16th hole in the first round and it is 10/11 for another hole-in-one at that signature par three once again in 2022. That is the hole with the record for most holes-in-one on the course and is often the scene of at least some near misses with its inviting green protected by water.

Corey Conners also found the hole from the tee in 2021 when he aced the sixth in the third round and it is 12/1 for another hole-in-one on moving day, with a hole-in-one at that hole 14/1 as one of our Masters specials.  

There have been just three holes-in-one at the famous Golden Bell 12th hole that is surrounded by Ray’s Creek and it is 12/1 for a hole-in-one there in 2022.
