Racing at Newbury headlines Saturday’s schedule, with the group three Hackwood Stakes topping the bill. Away from the main event and there’s plenty for Coral punters to get involved in, with no less than nine meetings scheduled across the UK and Ireland.

We follow the money
The Hackwood Stakes goes to post at 3.00pm. Contested over six furlongs, there’s £34,000 on offer to the winner, and our traders think that cheque will be on its way to the owners of Magical Memory, Charles Hills’ rep priced as early favourite. He may be the shortest price in the race, but we find ourselves in complete agreement with the market.
The five-year-old gelding goes as a previous winner over this trip, scoring at Haydock in his last start, claiming a conditions stakes earlier this month. Magical Memory beat race favourite Kachy a head that day, answering the call when pushed for home by Atzeni, and sticking to his task at the business end to grind out the desired result.
Royal Ascot effort can be forgiven
The selection didn’t do himself any favours when finishing well down the list at Royal Ascot in the Diamond Jubilee Stakes, but we’re going to forgive that dreadful run, and give him another chance. He was never in the contest that day, but the experienced sort has won the group two Duke of York and group three Abernant Stakes in the past, so can never be written off.
The selection boasts the best form of the field here, and the booking of Frankie Dettori in the saddle is sure to make him extremely popular with casual punters in the run-up to the off. A lively field, but if Magical Memory gives his best, he’s the winner all day long. We’ll have a go at the 11/4 currently available with Coral.
