Huge weekend of English sport

Patriotic punters could be set to splash over £200m this weekend as English stars go for glory in the World Cup, Wimbledon, F1 and Horse Racing.

The action begins at Sandown where ITV will be providing coverage of seven live races, culminating in the Coral-Eclipse at 2:10pm. Masar, Roaring Lion and Saxon Warrior will face-off in what is widely expected to be a three-way battle for the £448,363 Group 1 prize. We’ve previewed their chances here.

Attention then turns to Russia, where England are bidding to reach the World Cup semi-finals for the first time since 1990. The Three Lions take on Sweden in Samara and are the 19/20 favourites to win the contest in 90 minutes. It’s 10/1 for Gareth Southgate’s men to repeat their Colombia heroics and win the match on penalties.

British ace Kyle Edmund is also in action at Wimbledon. He faces a tough test against two-time SW19 champion Novak Djokovic. The 23-year-old is 10/3 to overcome the Serbian, who is odds-on at 2/9 to make it through to the next round.

Then on Sunday it’s all eyes on Silverstone as Lewis Hamilton attempts to overtake Sebastian Vettel in the F1 Drivers’ Championship. The Mercedes star has triumphed around the Northamptonshire circuit in each of the last four years and is 10/11 to make that five ahead of the mid-season break.

You can back a patriotic quartet of England, Edmund, Hamilton and Roaring Lion all to win at 70/1.

“As the UK basks in glorious summer sunshine, adding to the feelgood factor that England’s win over Colombia built up, Kyle Edmund and Lewis Hamilton will be hoping to add to the celebrations at SW19 and Silverstone respectively, while there would no more apt winner of the big race at Sandown than Roaring Lion,” added Stevens.
