League Two Play-off Betting Tips: Will Mansfield end Newport’s unbeaten run?

Odds and preview for League Two play-off semi-finals

The League Two play-offs kick-off to night, and if recent years are anything to go by, form could go out of the window at this stage.

Mansfield Town will have to pick themselves up after missing out on automatic promotion thanks to a late run of three straight defeats.

David Flitcroft’s side finished fourth at the end of the regular season, which means they travel to seventh-placed Newport County tonight.

Tranmere Rovers host Forest Green Rovers tomorrow night, and we’ve got outright promotion odds as well as previews for both first legs right here…

League Two play-off winner odds

Mansfield are 7/4 favourites to go up, though Fleetwood Town are the only side to have finished fourth and gone on to win the League Two play-offs in the last 10 years.

Forest Green and Tranmere are both at 11/4, with Newport a 7/2 shot to return to the third tier for the first time since 1986-97.

The hosts have only lost two of their previous 15 fixtures at Rodney Parade. A repeat of February’s 1-0 home win over the Stags is available for 11/2.

Newport County v Mansfield Town (7:45pm, Sky Sports Football)

The two league meetings between these sides this season were both won by the home team.  And our traders think that pattern may continue here, with Newport 31/20 favourites on the back of their 10-game unbeaten run.

Mansfield are 21/10 on the night. They’ve shown they can raise their game for big occasions too, knocking Leicester City and Middlesbrough out of the cup this season. But they’re 8/15 to reach the final, with the Exiles 11/8 underdogs.

Jamille Matt and Padraig Arnold share 9/2 favouritism in the First Goalscorer market, with the pair both 2/1 to net anytime. Robbie Willmott is also 5/1 to score, having grabbed the winner in the last meeting.

Mansfield will be looking to Tyler Walker to add to his 22-goal haul. The on-loan striker is 4/1 to open the scoring or 9/5 anytime, with CJ Hamilton a 5/2 anytime shot.

Tranmere Rovers v Forest Green Rovers (7:45pm on Friday, Sky Sports Football)

There was only a point between these two sides in the table, and there isn’t much between the 2016-17 National League play-off finalists in the betting either. Tranmere are 19/20 to reach Wembley, with Forest Green just behind at 4/5.

On the night, our traders have Tranmere at 13/10. However, Forest Green (11/5) did beat the Merseysiders twice in league action this term. We go 21/10 that the scores finish level at Prenton Park.

James Norwood has been on fire with 29 goals this season. The Tranmere hotshot is 16/5 to break the deadlock, with 13/10 about an anytime goal.

Christian Doidge netted in the visitor’s 3-1 Wembley win over Tranmere two years ago. He’s 2/1 to inflict more misery on the Super White Army here.
