Preview of the 2021/22 League One title race

Wigan currently top League One on goal difference ahead of Sunderland  – and just a point ahead of Rotherham – in a tight title race.

The Latics are favourites in out League One winner odds to claim top spot and have four games in hand over the Black Cats and two over the Millers.

It is set up to be a thrilling finale to the season so we’re looking at the title contenders and their odds ahead of the crucial run-in.

Wigan

Leam Richardson’s side have won eight of their last 10 games after Saturday’s narrow 3-2 win over Gillingham.

It helped lift them to the top and they are evens in the League One winner odds to lift the title. That price is aided by the amount of games in hand they have on their rivals.

Wigan have not lost in the league since October but face Rotherham, Wycombe and Sunderland in a crucial eight days in February.

Sunderland

The addition of defender Danny Batth after his departure from Stoke adds quality and experience at the level and, despite injuries, they have lost just one of their last 13 games.

The 1-0 win over Portsmouth on Saturday ended a three-game run without a victory and left them with League One winner odds of 11/2.

They do have the division’s 18-goal top scorer in Ross Stewart which could prove key to their title hopes.

Rotherham

The Millers are a point behind in third but, crucially, have two games in hand over Sunderland.

Michael Smith’s 15th goal of the season gave them a 1-0 win over Cheltenham on Saturday.

The Millers have League One winner odds of 6/4 and Paul Warne’s side do need to correct a wobble on the road having lost at Accrington and Fleetwood recently.

Wycombe

Gareth Ainsworth’s side are looking to bounce back to the Championship at the first attempt after being relegated on the final day last season.

They topped the table but a 3-2 defeat at Morecambe saw them drop to fourth, to highlight how tight the race is and they are 14/1 to lift the trophy.

Games against Wigan in February and Rotherham in March could prove crucial to their chances.

MK Dons

Although 50/1 in our League One winner odds, it is foolish to completely rule out Liam Manning’s side who are only five points off top spot.

They may be soon much further adrift considering they are one side up to date with their quota of games, but points on the board is often crucial and the entertaining Dons are sure to win their fair share of games during the run-in.
