Leader Writer can blow the field away in Cambridgeshire

O’Brien should have a big say on the day

After the disappointment of the Ayr Gold Cup washout last weekend, what a couple of days racing there are in store.

The Cambridgeshire Handicap at Newmarket on Saturday takes centre stage of course. But there’s also not one, but two Group 1 renewals as well as a Group 2.

And that’s not even mentioning the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe card from France tomorrow.

Plus there are also three live races from Haydock – it really is a bumper weekend of action.

The Coral News Team delves into our tips book for some insight.

Bet of the Day

The 35-runner 1m1f Cambridgeshire Handicap can generally be a minefield to pick a winner from.

This is one of the biggest betting races of the year and that generally means value among a big spread of horses.

There is one horse, in particular, that intrigues more than the rest. And that’s Leader Writer.

Henry Tiller’s French five-year-old had a big reputation upon arrival at the Newmarket stables but had a few kinks to iron out.

A son of Pivotal, he was hugely impressive in a win over a mile at Ascot earlier this month on just his third start under Tiller’s tutelage.

At a furlong greater distance here than at Ascot, he should be well involved near the finish line.

As mentioned previously, there are so many in with a shout here but at big odds, Leader Writer is Coral’s Bet of the Day.

Sioux Nation’s a star

Aidan O’Brien has a quartet of inclusions in this Middle Park Stakes renewal but it’s Sioux Nation who whets the appetite.

This two-year-old star comes into this Group 1 renewal off back-to-back victories.

A son of Scat Daddy, he won the Group 2 Norfolk Stakes back in June, as well as the Group 1 Phoenix Stakes at the Curragh a few weeks ago.

However, there are slight worries over his gas tank. But then he was a personal choice of Ryan Moore and that’s enough to get on-board with the current prices included.

Clemmie could suffer from some Heartache

Everyone and their dog will be backing Clemmie in the Cheveley Park Stakes but it’s another horse the Coral News Team like.

Clive Cox’s Heartache has been in tremendous form this season with three wins and a second place from four races this season.

That included a Group 2 win at Doncaster earlier in the month, as well victory at Royal Ascot in June.

If he can handle the step up in Group category and the extra furlong, he’s in with a huge chance.

This Group 1 renewal looks a prospectively fascinating duel.
