Joe Tizzard: The jockey’s claim makes his task easier

Trainer and Coral ambassador Joe Tizzard discusses the chances of his three runners at Ascot on Saturday.

Ascot 1.30 – Scarface

Scarface is having his first start over fences, but we’ve done plenty of schooling with him at home, so there are no concerns about his jumping. He’s won and finished second at Ascot over hurdles, so we know he goes well at the track, and a good clear round should hopefully see him go close here.

Ascot 3.45 – Eldorado Allen

I was considering the Charlie Hall Chase at Wetherby for this fellow, a race he was runner-up in last season, but had a rethink and have gone for this £100,000 handicap instead. It would be a high-class problem if he went and won and was penalised for the Coral Gold Cup, as he’d have picked up more than fifty grand!

Fred [Gingell] rides and takes seven pounds off his back, and that will make his task easier as he does carry top weight on ratings, because in theory he’s the class horse in the race, so hopefully it pans out like that and he’s not too far away.

Ascot 4.15 – U Cant Be Serious

U Cant Be Serious is a lovely big horse who had the one run in the spring. He ran really well at Chepstow that day, two furlongs from home he was still on the bridle before he just got tired late on. He’s done well over the summer, and while we don’t have many bumper winners, we did have one last weekend. He could have an each-way chance here but whatever happens it will be hurdles for him next.
