Kempton 3.37 – Killer Kane

The wet weather is beginning to cause a few headaches for trainers now, we always expect to lose a few meetings through the winter months, but this year it’s been relentless, and when we keep losing opportunities to run our horses, that does catch up with us eventually.

Rose Of Arcadia is a good example, she would have run at Warwick this week, as we look to qualify her for Mares’ day at Cheltenham in April, but with that day lost, we now have to think of a Plan B for her.  I’m sure everyone feels the same, but we could all use a drier spell to give us some more predictable Spring ground.

On the same subject, Killer Kane could have done with it being better ground here, but this is a lovely big prize and we want to be running in these races. He runs well at Kempton, and finished third here a couple of weeks ago, and was fifth in this race last year.  We had his wind done prior to his most recent run, so that seemed to help, and all being well he’ll run well here and then we’ll head for the Topham at Aintree as we did last season.

Kempton 4.10 – War Lord

War Lord had a cracking novice season, but I think he may have paid the price for that, as the handicapper got hold of him and that meant he was never given a chance last season.  He’s still been a bit hit and miss this year, but the bright spot was his third in the Haldon Gold Cup.

He has dropped to a more workable mark now, and I think this trip and track will suit, and his home work has always remained consistent.  At his best he would be competitive here, but I just don’t know what horse will show up at the track at the moment.
