Lots to like about Droopys Country odds in opening Laurels semi-final

Top class Open race action from Belle Vue takes centre stage tonight on Racing Post Greyhound TV (Sky 468, Freesat 250), and T6 Droopys Country rates a solid bet to land the first semi-final of the RPGTV Laurels at 20:10.

Jimmy Wright’s dog has tons of of early pace and is a real tough nut to crack once getting clear on the bunny.

He posted a superb trial over course and distance when producing a flashy 4.37 split, before going down by a short-head to Hiya Butt in a time of 27.53, and there was lots to like about his effort in last week’s heats when runner-up to Roswell Iceman.

The winner got a flying start, but the selection stuck to the task well to go down by 1 1/2 lengths after not being foot perfect as the lids went up.

There is no doubt in my mind that Droopys Country is capable of a much slicker exit and, as the sole wide seed, he looks nicely drawn to turn the tables on T3 Roswell Iceman, who is flanked by early paced sorts and also an inconsistent trapper himself.

Trapeze fancied to kick Butt in Belle Vue best bets

In the second semi-final of the RPGTV Laurels (20:26), T6 Droopys Trapeze looks decent value to turn over the red-hot jolly T2 Hiya Butt and provide Wright with a quick-fire double.

The son of Tullymurry Act has won his last three competitive starts and was ultra-impressive over course and distance seven days ago, when beating Oscars Junior by 2 3/4 lengths.

Droopys Trapeze showed bundles of early pace to produce a lightning 4.20 sectional and make all to score easily in a time of 27.55.

It was a most taking performance which showed he is clearly right at the top of his game at present.

He also wasn’t stopping at the finish and, with T1 Bubbly Zeus a possible hazard for Hiya Butt to overcome as he has a tendency to move off at the first bend, Droopys Trapeze looks nicely drawn to ping out and register another success.

Pinpoint Den worth a punt

T4 Pinpoint Den is a class act when getting loose on the bunny and looks worth a punt at the odds on offer in the third semi-final of the RPGTV Laurels (20:42).

Kelly Macari’s dog showed what he is capable of when flashing from the lids to land an all the way three length success over Tynwald Baz in the final of the Steel City Cup at Sheffield.

He has since had just three competitive starts and was impressive in the second of those, when very quickly away and making all to beat Shaneboy Freddie by 3 1/4 lengths in the Terry Meynell Memorial Trophy at Newcastle.

Although only third in last week’s heats behind the re-opposing T6 Corrin Boyshane, the son of Zero Ten looked a bit ring rusty and looks sure to come on for that run.

Pinpoint Den should also get plenty of space in which to operate, from what looks a handy middle draw and, if turning in front, is going to take some pegging back.

Droopys Two value in Oaks semi-final

In the second semi-final of the RPGTV Oaks (21:32), T6 Droopys Two looks cracking value to land the spoils.

Dean Childs’ bitch caught the eye in the first round when missing the break before staying on well to finish third to the very smart Forest Twilight.

She was once again slowly away in the second round last week, before showing terrific gears in the middle of the race to lead on the run-in and win going away by 1 1/4 lengths at the line.

It was a terrific effort given how the race panned out, and Droopys Two is surely capable of trapping in better fashion.

If she can, then as the sole wide side she holds every chance of turning in a handy pitch and, with the possibility of scrimmaging on the inside, is going to be tough to contain if within striking distance turning for home.
