The Saturday evening session was the one everyone was most intrigued to witness, to see whether BDO big-guns Martin Adams, Andy Fordham and Scott Mitchell could all show the PDC what they’re made of.
In the end, all three put in good showings, with The Viking giving glimpses of his former self, but only Wolfie could end up winning.

Steve West v Mark Oosterhuis (A)
Group A whipping boys West (1/4) and Oosterhuis (3/1) meet as they attempt to keep their narrow hopes of qualifying alive.
Both are qualifiers from their respective PDC and BDO organisations, but judging by their openers it is Westy who has the more quality and so is 10/3 for a 5-2 triumph.
Ian White v Steve Beaton (B)
White (2/5) and Beaton (15/8) are two veterans who on their day can compete with the best. After losing their opening matches, however, they now duel in a must-win clash.
The Bronzed Adonis perhaps surprisingly boasts a 4-1 career record over Diamond, though lost their most recent battle this year. White is a tempting 4/1 shout to triumph 5-3.
Wayne Jones v Andy Fordham (C)
Everyone was willing on The Viking to mark his long-awaited return to the big stage, having made just one TV appearance in the last eight years, to defeat Lewis, but in the end couldn’t keep up his fine start.
Despite his hands noticeably shaking throughout, Fordham (6/5) hit a 180 with his first three throws and broke Lewis in the opening leg before eventually losing, but he can now go on to topple Jones (4/6), who he beat twice in his prime.
Mervyn King v Scott Mitchell (D)
Group D is arguably the toughest of all the pools in this edition of the Grand Slam, as is obvious by the fact that King and Mitchell are having to fight it out to stay in contention to qualify.
This really could go either way, and they are also both priced at 10/11 in the match betting, but back the younger Scotty Dog at 5/4 to win 5-4.
Adrian Lewis v Michael Smith (C)
Jackpot broke neutral darts fans’ hearts after managing to hold off an emotional Andy Fordham, who came straight out of the blocks, to win 5-2, but did anyone really expect the double world champion to lose?

Lewis next faces Bully Boy (6/4 match chance), who saw off Wayne Jones, and is the odds-on favourite at 8/15 to beat him too to ensure that he reaches the second round.
Michael van Gerwen v Kim Huybrechts (A)
Both PDC stars Van Gerwen (2/7) and Huybrechts (13/5) won convincingly in their opening matches, and now go head-to-head early in a repeat of their quarters clash in this event which the Belgian won.
They also faced each other in the groups, where Mighty Mike was the 5-2 victor, but it could go all the way this time so back the Dutchman at 5/1 to win 5-4.
Jelle Klaasen v Martin Adams (B)
Wolfie well and truly washed away critics with his convincing 5-2 win over one of the PDC’s top current player White, in which he hit a couple of terrific checkouts.
Up next for six-time BDO major winner (even-money) will be in-form fellow former Lakeside champion Klaasen (4/5 slight odds-on favourite). Adams, the only one from his organisation to get a victory form the opening round of games, is 5/1 to win 5-3.
Peter Wright v Dave Chisnall (D)
Snakebite was given a tough opening fixture with BDO world champ Mitchell, but in the end showed too much quality.

Wright now faces Chizzy (both 10/11), who he hasn’t enjoyed meeting throughout his career having lost four of their 13 head-to-heads, but is in better form so is 5/1 for a close 5-4 triumph.
