Gaps in the German defence

Both sides have lit up the Confederations Cup so far, but Germany, unlike their opponents, finished top of their pool. Joachim Low’s side led the way in Group B after three games, finishing with seven points from a possible nine. That tally was achieved thanks to wins over Australia and Cameroon, as well as an entertaining draw vs Chile.

Results that wouldn’t have been difficult to predict before kick-off, but what did catch punters off-guard is the gaps present in the German defence, leaking four goals in those three games, while scoring seven. Clicking yes in the both teams to score coupon at Coral on Thursday will net you 7/10, while this one to produce over 3.5 goals, as two of Germany’s last three have, is worth careful consideration at 21/10.

Werner scored two last time

What’s more interesting still is that the last meeting of these sides ended in a 4-3 win for Germany in this tournament back in 2005, Podolski, Schweinsteiger, Huth and Ballack all on target for the victors. Of the two previous games between the pair, both have scored in a German win. The hat-trick is sure to attract attention at 3/1. That’s our ace of the evening.

For those who would prefer to keep things simple, a look at the match betting market gives Timo Werner and his teammates as even money favourites to get the desired result in normal time. RB Leipzig forward Werner scored two against Columbia, and appeals at 9/2 with us to break the deadlock.

Mexico stuttered against New Zealand

Mexico followed an opening day draw against Portugal with a pair of wins in their next two, beating New Zealand and Russia, both with a 2-1 final score. The latter was a must-win, but they found themselves behind to the hosts with Samedov scoring after 25 minutes. A spirited fightback got results, Araujo and Lozano getting the goals to turn the game on its head. A sucker-punch for the home fans, but it was a win Mexico deserved on the day.

They won’t get another, not according to our football team, who were far from convinced by that narrow win. Beating New Zealand by a single goal didn’t do much to inspire confidence either, and they fell behind that day too. There’s 5/2 going on El Tri to pull off the upset and win in 90 minutes, or 11/8 to qualify by any method.
