Former five-goal haulers in Europe after Lewandowski’s Bayern blitz

At the top level of European football, it’s rare to see five goals scored by any single player over 90 minutes, but Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski recently joined an elite group with his nine-minute quintet from the bench.

Cristiano Ronaldo (v Espanyol and Granada, 2015)
Among that group Lewandowski has raised himself among sits Real Madrid’s Ronaldo, which is of no surprise to anyone. Arguably the greatest player of his generation has not only one five-goal game, but two in the same year.

Radamel Falcao (v Deportivo, 2012)
Having stuttered during a woeful season-long loan spell with Manchester United and now doing pretty much the same for Chelsea, it’s easy to forget Falcao was once one of Europe’s deadliest strikers.

During his Atletico Madrid days, the Colombian hitman was at his clinical best and netted these five sublime goals against Deportivo La Coruna. Sit back and enjoy the El Tigre of old.

Lionel Messi (v B Leverkusen, 2012)
If Ronaldo has done it, then it’s likely Messi has too. On Europe’s grandest stage, La Liga’s all-time scorer became the first player ever to hit a five-goal haul in the Champions League, which Barcelona are 3/1 to win this term.

The Catalans’ four-time FIFA Ballon d’Or winner was at his majestic best against a helpless Bayer Leverkusen three years ago, with the Germans having no answer to the brilliance of this once-in-a-lifetime player. Relive that historic haul now!

Miroslav Klose (v Bologna, 2013)
The all-time record goal scorer in the World Cup for Germany, Klose is just as emphatic at club level, having enjoyed a successful spell with Serie A outfit Lazio in the latter stages of his illustrious career.

Brilliant Bulgarian Berbatov constantly caused debate among fans of the Premier League with his displays being labelled as either lazy, or simply graceful.
