America’s Dustin Johnson is the favourite ahead of the US Open, which begins tomorrow. It’s 7/1 for the 33-year-old to triumph, making him the only golfer in single-figure odds with Coral.

Coral’s Harry Aitkenhead said: ““Dustin Johnson’s back to number one in the world and he is also the punters number one pick to win this year’s US Open, which would be a second win in three years.”

“He’s our only single odds man heading into the opening round and it would certainly be a bad result for the bookies should he go on to win it.”

Rory McIlroy at 10/1 is the next-most likely for glory, and is followed in the betting by Justin Rose, Jason Day and Justin Thomas (all 12/1).

Rose has been the pick of many punters, which has seen his odds gradually tumble to 12s.

Aitkenhead added: “One man who has been well backed to have all the tools to succeed on the course is Justin Rose, who is now into just 12-1 and has proved incredibly popular with our customers.”
