Great Gary Anderson odds for Irish arrow showdown

The 2016 World Grand Prix has its final four, following a frantic Thursday night of drama, missed doubles and slight scares for some of the big guns.

There are great Gary Anderson odds up for grabs here at Coral, as the super Scot made it through to Friday’s showpiece alongside fellow seeds Dave Chisnall, Raymond van Barneveld and (of course) Michael van Gerwen.

In this quirky competition, headline arrow acts have already fallen hard – but can either or both of Chizzy or Barney break Anderson and MvG’s trophy stranglehold?

Last year famously produced a shock victor in the form of Robert Thornton. So, read on in our 2016 World Grand Prix semi-finals preview, to see if we think the apple cart will be upset again in Ireland…

Michael van Gerwen v Dave Chisnall

History does not bode well for maximums man Chizzy in this fixture against darting juggernaut Van Gerwen. The Englishman has chipped MvG’s armour just nine times from 41 previous battles.

There are chinks in the Dutch giant’s facade, however, after Simon Whitlock threatened to rattle the world number one in the quarters.

Seeking darting redemption after losing the final to Thornton last year, Mighty Mike is the heavy 1/10 favourite to reach the last two, and 4/9 for the silverware.

Having blasted his way past Chisnall to win all of their most recent nine encounters, MvG is 7/4 in our semis specials to be the player with the highest checkout on Friday.

There is further value to be had in the 180 markets, with Van Gerwen just behind specialist Chizzy (even-money) at 5/4 for the most maximums of the match. As the powerful thrower is no slouch in that department himself, those are tempting odds.

If punters would prefer to back English underdog Chisnall, you can get a generous 6/1 for a victory. This does have some precedent as, the last time Chizzy scalped Van Gerwen in a premier event was in 2013 – in this very tournament.

Gary Anderson v Raymond van Barneveld

If there is to be the prospect of a dominant all-Dutch final in Dublin, Barney (7/4 outsider to win his semi-final) will have to bring his A game to the oche.

As Phil Taylor displayed in the Champions League of Darts, it can be folly to write off living legends of the darts board. Hague-born veteran Barney, after all, lags just one win behind this top opponent in head-to-heads.

Yet, The Flying Scotsman has thwarted Van Barneveld relentlessly of late. Winning all their last eight scuffles, Anderson has also ousted Barney from three World Series events in 2016.

This makes the world champion a reasonable odds-on 4/9 to reach the final in Dublin. Yet, you can back the Scot at an even better 3/1 price to win the whole thing.

A close call could be on the cards, with Barney in bullish form. Therefore, a 4-3 triumph to Anderson is intriguing at 9/2.

As for more semis specials, a nine-darter on the night is 12/1 – which could be a punt worth taking considering the star-studded line-up.
