“Those tactics have continued despite my making our position clear in my first conversation with Daniel Levy on this subject in mid-August. I said selling Saido so late in the window was not on our agenda.

“Saido has been unsettled to the point where our Head Coach has not felt able to select him for our last three games. We are now left with the task of repairing the damage created by this unfortunate episode.”

Tottenham’s attempts to lure Saido Berahino to London from West Brom seemed to have come to nothing, with the Baggies rejecting a fourth Spurs bid, reported to be £23m. It could be a tough campaign for Harry Kane now, with the goalscoring burden resting primarily on his shoulders.

More news coming out of Everton, with Roberto Martinez’s having now retained the services of Scotland international forward Steven Naismith, having rejected an offer believed to be around £7m from Norwich City.

There was an interesting rumour to come out of Riverside last night, with Middlesbrough being linked with Manchester United’s Antonio Valencia! Comedian Bob Mortimer, on half of double act Reeves and Mortimer, and former Boro youth player even offered the Ecuadorian his old house. Generous man, needs to charge his phone, though.

(8:45) Quick morning round-up!
It may be very early on in the day, but clubs are already on it (in terms of transfers that is). Deals for the likes of Glenn Murray to Bournemouth, Virgil Van Dijk to Southampton, Victor Ibarbo to Watford (loan), and Moses and Adebayor to West Ham are reportedly all but done, barring paperwork and medicals.
