Coral Romford Puppy Cup final preview and odds

The stage is set for another fascinating Coral Romford Puppy Cup final on Friday night and opinions will be divided over the likely winner.

David Mullins has three runners in the decider as he seeks to complete a hat-trick of triumphs in this 400 metres event, following wins for Tenpin and Brookside Richie.

Letโ€™s take a look at those still in contention for the first prize of ยฃ10,000:

Trap 1: QUEEN PINK @ 2/1

Tracked Ranches King into the home straight and then swept past in fine fashion to win the third semi-final in 23.94 for Liz and Rab McNair. That was a third straight victory for this likeable bitch, who previously flew round in 23.76. The only concern is that she did drift across to the middle when coming out of trap one last week and that could see things get messy on this occasion.

Trap 2: SLIDER McCOY @ 11/2

Showed good early pace and a willing spirit to get inside Bales Legacy at the first bend before going on to land the opening semi in 24.17 and also secured a first-round heat success in 23.92. Had previously found the step up to Open class a touch tricky after going through the grades with six straight wins at Suffolk Downs but nobody can doubt his attitude.

Trap 3: ROMEO HOTSHOT @ 11/4

Looked the pick of the Mullins contenders after impressing with back-to-back wins in a maidens event here and overcame an early bump to take his heat in 23.71. An awkward start proved his undoing in the semis, but he still battled on well to finish second behind kennel mate and litter brother Romeo Mission. We wouldnโ€™t rule out him reversing those placings if trapping better this time.

Trap 4: RANCHES KING @ 10/1

This litter brother to Slider McCoy made it three wins in six outings at Suffolk Downs when scoring in an August A1 and has taken well to Romford. He made all to beat Bales Legacy in convincing fashion in round one and then did nothing wrong in the semis, just being worn down by Queen Pink late on. Probably needs to lead and get help from trouble in behind, but that gameplan worked for Born Warrior in the Irish Derby.

Trap 5: ROMEO MISSION @ 9/4

Was unlucky when a well-backed second favourite behind Chelms Marley in round one, being forced to check when challenging at the fourth bend, but cut across bravely at the first turn to secure a decisive early advantage in the semis. That allowed him to gallop clear and show his full potential by posting a slick 23.89. Similar tactics will be the plan here and any bunching inside would be a boost.

Trap 6: BALES LEGACY @ 16/1

The outsider of Mullinsโ€™ trio went into this competition with little more than local track knowledge to recommend him, with four graded wins ranging from A9 to A4 class. Was 22/1 when chasing home Ranches King in the heats and 14/1 for his semi, so itโ€™s no surprise to see him at double-figure odds again in the Coral Romford Puppy Cup final odds.
