Chelsea v Southampton betting tips: Blues out to end fourth-round jinx
Published:Preview and odds for Tuesday’s League Cup clash
The Blues welcome the Saints to Stamford Bridge for the second time this season and we look at the odds to find some Chelsea v Southampton betting tips for the League Cup tie.
Chelsea have won this competition five times – the last coming in 2015 – while Southampton reached the final twice, including when beaten by current holders Manchester City four years ago.
Tuesday’s match, which takes place at Stamford Bridge, kicks off at 7.45pm.
Chelsea v Southampton match odds
The Blues are 4/9 to beat Southampton for the second time in a month.
They downed Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side 3-1 at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League on October 2 with goals from Trevoh Chalobah and two late strikes from Timo Werner and Ben Chilwell.
However, Southampton had their moments and played well in defeat.
Thomas Tuchel’s side come into this on the back of Saturday’s 7-0 Premier League victory over Norwich, which keeps them top of the table.
They needed penalties to defeat Aston Villa in the third round, following a 1-1 draw in 90 minutes, and another stalemate is on offer at odds of 13/4.
It is perhaps worth remembering Chelsea have fallen at this stage of the League Cup in four of the last six seasons, including each of the last two.
Like Villa, the Saints return to the Bridge after being beaten in the Premier League a few weeks previously.
Saints, who drew 2-2 with Burnley at St Mary’s on Saturday – their fifth draw in the top tier this season – thrashed Newport 8-0 away in the second round.
They then went through on penalties at Bramall Lane, having been held to a 2-2 draw by Sheffield United in the third round. They are 13/2 to win and 33/1 to lift the League Cup.

Chelsea have progressed from both of their League Cup ties against Southampton, the most recent coming at this stage in 1997-98 – the Blues prevailing 2-1 at Stamford Bridge en route to lifting the trophy.
Both sides scored in 17 of the last 27 meetings, including the last three. It is evens this is the case again.
Chelsea v Southampton key battles
Mason Mount bagged a hat-trick for the Blues on Saturday and the England star is 6/4 to score at any time. Yet it is their defence which has stood out.
There have been some worrying moments and some indecision over the past few weeks, yet the fact remains they have only conceded a league-low three goals in nine games.
Saints have managed just eight goals in the Premier League but while they have 10 goals in this competition in two games, breaking Chelsea down will be difficult.
