Preview and odds ahead of weekend’s action
The Nations League takes a back seat as we resume an absorbing start to the Bundesliga in Germany.
Following poor starts Bayer Leverkusen and Schalke will be looking to pull further away from the relegation zone.
But it’s the stuttering form of Bayern Munich which has dominated discussion. This has allowed Borussia Dortmund to pull away at the top.
With this is in mind we peer into one of the most competitive Bundesliga seasons for years…
Stuttgart v Borussia Dortmund (2.30pm, Saturday)
Lucien Favre’s men have looked gloriously chaotic, a throwback to the rock and roll football that won them two league titles under Jurgen Klopp.
They’ve started this season with a 7-0 win, a 4-2 victory and a last-gasp winner in a 4-3 triumph over Augsburg last time out.
BVB’s top scorer Paco Alcacer who is 6/5 to score anytime hasn’t even started a league game yet!
Dortmund are 4/5 to make it five wins in a row in all competitions. Stuttgart did win this game 2-1 last season, a repeat of that result is 12/1.
Jadon Sancho could start for Die Borussen. Marco Reus is 7/5 to score and his link-up has meant Sancho has picked up the most assists from the top four leagues.
Could Wolfsburg heap more misery on Bayern?
The Wolves have already taken the scalps of Schalke and Bayer Leverkusen. Bruno Labbadia’s side are 21/20 to win or draw and compound Bayern’s gloom.
Bayern sit outside the top four of the Bundesliga for the first time since Carlo Ancelotti was in charge.
However, Bayern are 1/3 to net first and rip up the form book after only managing a single goal in their last three league games.
Whether the board are saying it or not, Niko Kovac is under pressure to return to winning ways at the Allianz Arena. A win for Der FCB is 1/3, which could prove the catalyst for a surge up the table.
Leipzig to continue their good run at Augsburg
RB Leipzig have won four of their last five league games to turn an inconsistent start into an impressive one.
They thumped Nurnberg 6-0 before the international break. The much-maligned East German side are 23/20 to travel to Augsburg and win.
The home side’s position in the table belies how competitive they’ve been. Draws with Borussia Monchengladbach and Bayern was followed by losing to a last-minute Alcacer winner for BVB.
Augsburg’s Alfred Finnbogason is 8/5 to add to his tally. Strike partner Michael Gregoritsch is 11/5 to notch Anytime.
Leipzig are looking to secure Champions League football next season for new manager Julian Nagelsmann. Die Bullen are 4/1 to win and the game to feature Over 3.5 goals.
Best of the rest
Hertha Berlin have already taken the scalp of Bayern Munich on their way to fifth-place. They sit on 14 points with a clutch of clubs including second-placed RB Leipzig.
Ondrej Duda is 6/1 to score first and add a sixth goal to his tally this season.
They take on Freiburg on Saturday. Christian Streich’s men had been amongst goals until their 0-0 draw with Leverkusen.
German international Nils Petersen is 13/5 to bag Anytime.
