Brighton tips: Course specialist Hawk Mouth handicapped to strike

Hawk Moth has a good record at Brighton and can take advantage of a drop in the weights to further enhance it with victory in the 1m apprentice handicap on today’s card at the seaside venue (17:00).

This John Spearing trained eight-year-old is a four-time course and distance winner, also running well to make the frame on seven occasions at the track.

In the last of those successes back in May, Hawk Moth only had to be ridden out to comfortably beat Soaring Spirits by 2 1/4 lengths off a mark of 58.

The runner-up has since come put and landed a hat-trick to give the form a rock solid look in the context of this class 6 contest, and Hawk Moth is now able to race in it off just 1lb higher.

It gives the veteran major claims from a handicapping perspective, especially if taking into account the 5lb claim of Joshua Bryan. Hawk Moth odds thus look appealing.

Dynamic Girl worth a bet to power to glory

Dynamic Girl scored in good style last time out and can make light of a rise in the weights to follow up in the 6f handicap that gets proceedings underway (14:00).

Brendan Powell’s filly overcame trouble in-running before showing a good turn of foot to beat Babyfact by 1 1/4 lengths in an 11-runner contest at Salisbury.

This daughter of Holy Roman Emperor was well on top at the finish and the runner-up has come out and won twice since to give the form a boost.

It makes a 6lb rise for Dynamic Girl look lenient and, after just five starts, she remains unexposed and open to further improvement.

Colibri poised to open account

Colibri caught the eye last time out, so looks a worthy favourite to open his account at the third time of asking in the 7f maiden (14:30) now eased in grade.

After shaping with promise on debut when a not knocked about eighth of 13 to Lockheed in a decent class 2 maiden at Goodwood, the Hugo Palmer trained colt posted an improved effort when staying on nicely to finish fourth of 13 to Ultimate Avenue in a class 4 contest at Newbury.

Colibri finished ahead of three subsequent winners in the latter and now drops down into class 5 company.

It gives him outstanding claims in what looks a weak contest and another plus is that Colibri hails from a yard that has a 66% strike rate at the track in the past 12 months.
