Bet of the day: Friday’s racing

We line up a big bet at Brighton

We extend a warm welcome to the start of another weekend in summer, and there’s no lack of sports betting action to keep you occupied, from game one of the Premier League football season to the British and Irish horse racing schedule.

We focus our attentions on a seven-race card at Brighton as we aim to land a Friday afternoon NAP to boost your betting balance for what promises to be a hectic few days. As usual, our team of experts have run their eye over the form and figures, returning with an ace play, while those betting on the go can pick out the best from our race-by-race selections.

Highly Sprung primed to score

Lake Volta is picked out to get the ball rolling in the first at Brighton, a novice stakes expected to post at 2.10pm. We’re hoping to set the pace for the day with an early win, but our main play doesn’t line-up until later in the afternoon. He’s certainly one worth waiting on.

Brighton Bullet Handicap, a five-furlong sprint for the line, has been penned in for a 4.10pm start, and there’s a talent-laden 14 runners printed in the programme. Of the field, Highly Sprung leaps off the page at us, and we make the Mark Johnston trained hopeful the one worth having.

De Sousa best man for the job

The four-year-old gelding arrives at track on the back of an impressive win at Redcar last time out, scoring over today’s trip only last month. Going off at a big price, and supposed no hoper, the selection ripped up the script in some style, beating odds-on favourite Muscika by a ½ length. Those who saw the race would’ve instantly had him down as one to keep close in similar races.

We’re going to do just that, and the booking of jockey Silvestre De Sousa goes as another positive, and went some way to helping promote Highly Sprung to our bet of the day. The talented pilot loves it around here, as followers of the stats will confirm, and there’s not many better to have in the saddle at the Sussex course.
