Brighton preview: Mud-loving Tilstarr weighted to strike

Published:

Tilstarr will relish the soft ground at Brighton today and can take advantage of a drop in the weights to land the 1m 2f handicap at the seaside venue (16.20).

The Roger Teale trained mare is a dual winner on the all-weather who gained a first success on the turf when landing a class 6 contest over course and distance back in May by 1 3/4 lengths on soft ground off a mark of 64.

Tilstarr got put up 4lb for that victory, but went on to post a series of solid races in class 5 company.

They included a third at Epsom off a rating of 67, and the five-year-old is now able to race off a mark of just 62.

That is 2lb lower than when last successful and gives Tilstarr major claims at the weights, especially now dropped back down into class 6 company.

Tilstarr also has the services of top apprentice Tom Marquand in the saddle who is unbelievable value for his 3lb claim.

Taking it into account, Tilstarr looks weighted to take all the beating on ground which will hold no fears.

Posh Bounty has a good record at the track and can further enhance it with victory in the 6f handicap that closes proceedings (17.20).

The Joeph Tuite trained filly has had three runs over course and distance, finishing runner-up twice before opening her account in good style on heavy ground two starts back.

Posh Bounty scored easily by 2 1/2 lengths off a mark of 55, and was the far from disgraced off her revised rating of 60 when fourth in a 7f contest at Leicester last time out.

The drop back to 6f is sure to suit, and connections have made a shrewd move by booking promising apprentice Edward Greatrex to do the steering.

His 5lb claim means that Posh Bounty is able to race off the same mark as when last successful, and that makes the four-year-old the one to beat.
