Betting preview and odds for Premier League Darts Week 5

Michael van Gerwen and co. are off to the Granite City this week, as Premier League Darts heads to Aberdeen for Week 5 of the competition.

The Green Machine faces a tricky test up against ‘contender’ John Henderson in the last match of the night. Michael Smith’s clash with Rob Cross and Daryl Gurney’s fixture with James Wade are the pick of the games before that.

Michael Smith v Rob Cross

Neither of these two were at their best in a slog of a UK Open semi-final at the weekend. Smith’s continued problems with injury go part way to explaining Cross’s favouritism at 11/8.

In fairness Voltage has been playing pretty well in his own right. A 102.16 average in his 7-1 demolition of Daryl Gurney last week is testament to that. If he keeps that up, he should win here.

The Coral traders go 11/8 about him on the -1.5 Handicap and 9/1 about Cross to win 7-4. Smith has hit more 180s so far and is even-money to edge the maximum count again.

Daryl Gurney v James Wade

Wade beats Gurney in all the key stats ahead of this clash. That includes the 180 count, where the Northern Irishman has been unusually slacking with just seven so far to Wade’s 14.

The Machine is 7/4 to hit the most maximums, while there’s 5/6 about there being Under 5.5 in the match. It’s the Aldershot-thrower who gets the nod in the outright betting too at 7/5.

Three of his four matches have ended 7-3 or 7-4 either way. It’s 9/1 about the latter in favour of Wade in Aberdeen.

Mensur Suljovic v Gerwyn Price

Save last year’s Premier League defeat in Berlin, Price has made a habit of winning matches against Suljovic over the shorter format. Not to mention the Iceman is currently in the form of his life.

An unbeaten start in the Premier League, back-to-back Players Championship wins and a semi-final run in the UK Open comfortably sees to that. We make him 13/10 for a precious three points here.

The Welshman also tops Suljovic when it comes to highest checkout and most 180s. While he’s 5/6 to hit the lipstick more, it’s 5/1 that Price finishes up as King of the Oche.

Raymond van Barneveld v Peter Wright

Four weeks in and Barney is still without a win in this year’s Premier League. That’s unlikely to change against 8/11 shot Wright in front of the Scotsman’s home crowd.

Snakebite hasn’t pulled up any trees so far but has been posting consistently better averages than the Dutchman. He’s 3/2 on the -2.5 Handicap and even-money to hit the most 180s.

Michael van Gerwen v John Henderson

Don’t be surprised if big John causes a shock here at 10/1. The Scotsman is capable of some handy darts and has run MVG close before, beating him in their last meeting at the 2017 World Grand Prix.

The Green Machine hasn’t been firing on all cylinders of late either. His 7-3 defeat in the Premier League last week was followed up by a surprise 6-10 reverse to Mervyn King in the UK Open.

Van Gerwen’s problem is that he isn’t hitting his doubles. His checkout percentage was just 31% against King and 27% against Wade. That makes Henderson tempting on the Double Chance at 9/2 or on the +3.5 Handicap at 5/4. He’s also 4/1 in the Race to 3 Legs.
